does the melody of "state of grace" remind anyone else of another song? it sounds exactly like something, but i can't place it.

I know she's not that loved but I feel like that could be an honest mistake. It could have been in her head as she was a fan and just happened. It's not like it's the most crazy specific lyric ever. Matt Nathanson probably should've tried to talk to her personally before pooping his pants over it. It's not like he's writing Dillinger Escape Plan songs. It's all very derivative of something they liked or heard before, hopefully all somewhat unintentionally. That's how almost all mainstream music is.

Also, just to be clear, I'm definitely not even close to a fan.

I've written lines that subconsciously ripped off another writer and I had no clue. Then of course my band mates would say, "That's already a line idiot."

Maybe Taylor didn't have that voice of reason?

I believe the point he is making is it may have been done subconsciously and there was no one to say "hey that's a line already."
When I started learning guitar there was a riff I would jam to with friends that I thought I came up with, only to realize a couple years later it was a Collective Soul song.

now THAT is a news piece I can get behind, haha

That actually is fairly close...not sure how this would turn out if it went to court (which it probably won't).
