At Night We Strike (Dead Poetic / Oh, Sleeper)

Dead Poetic vocalist Brandon Rike has teamed up with Lucas Starr (Oh, Sleeper) to form At Night We Strike.

tiny vessels 11/16/12 12:50 PM

I loved New Medicines back in the day but never really got into Vices. Curious to see what comes of this.

therookielot 11/16/12 12:51 PM

Dead Poetic? Wow haven't heard that name in a while

dookiedog 11/16/12 12:58 PM

Can't wait to hear this! Loved Dead Poetic!

MrDelux 11/16/12 01:00 PM

Not many people know this. But Brandon Rike is actually a well acclaimed designer. I just watched his lecture on design in the industry yesterday.

awakeohsleeper 11/16/12 01:04 PM

I thought At Night We Strike was Lucas and his girlfriend. Either way he's been putting songs on Youtube for a while. But adding Brandon to the mix is a great thing! Can't wait to hear something!

Jake Denning 11/16/12 01:06 PM

YES!

subplotofcrows 11/16/12 01:07 PM

HOLY SHIT

Sounds like you're right.

jayromofo 11/16/12 01:08 PM

Finally! I've been listening to New Medicines and Vices so much lately and even sent Brandon a message on his website telling him to start up Dead Poetic again. This isn't Dead Poetic but regardless, this is going to be sweet :D

ThaRealNC 11/16/12 01:18 PM

Nice. Never thought I'd hear Brandon doing something with music again. This can only be a good thing.

Jamos4184 11/16/12 01:26 PM

Was just thinking about Dead Poetic yesterday and how awesome it was when they had Chino Moreno do guest vocals on the song "Paralytic".

I'm aware of this, which makes this announcement of a new band all the more puzzling. That's why Dead Poetic broke up - he wanted to focus on design.

icynova 11/16/12 01:43 PM

I could get behind this.

IdiotFlight 11/16/12 02:01 PM

Really liked Dead Poetic and looking forward to this.

only the clouds 11/16/12 02:09 PM

Vices totally blew me away when it came out. I am so excited for this.

Collaptic 11/16/12 02:15 PM

@nightwe/strike

Dirge07 11/16/12 02:23 PM

Didn't they announce this back in like April? I'm excited for them nonetheless. I wonder what designs Brandon and Ryan Sprague (the drummer, designs at Pavlov Visuals) could come up with together...

Aphasia17 11/16/12 02:59 PM

I used to love Dead Poetic back in the day and Rike is a terrific vocalist. Can't wait to see what comes of this.

leftapart 11/16/12 03:01 PM

Where's the music at bros!?!!?

Mattylikesfilms 11/16/12 03:19 PM

I still listen to DP here and there (Vices is amazing) so I'm stoked!

honkytonk 11/16/12 03:30 PM

Can't wait!

RabidNewz 11/16/12 03:32 PM

Kinda surprised to be honest. But will check out for sure.

Didn't Chino produce some of that album as well?

Like most here, loved NM but didn't dig much the more rockish Vices.

HogarthHughes 11/16/12 06:03 PM

Big fan of New Medicines and Vices, so I'm looking forward to this.

danperez 11/16/12 08:56 PM

Vices was so cool. Ahead of its time, for sure.

...atfirstsight 11/16/12 10:14 PM

I remember hearing both "New Medicines" and Underoath's "Reinventing Your Exit" for the first time in the same week...

First few songs of Vices was meh, but was excellent from "In Coma" down... especially "In Coma," "Paralytic," and the title track.

signal to noise 11/16/12 11:02 PM

yo... Dead Poetic was awesome. stoked that the singer is doing something new.

Lightsout911X 11/16/12 11:41 PM

Used to love New Medicines back in the day. This certainly piques my interest.

Best song on the album!

Nyquist Theorem 11/17/12 02:10 PM

I was just thinking about Dead Poetic the other day. I remember a few years back they were talking about still carrying on as a band, though on their own terms independent of a label. I think Jesse Sprinkle had written something about it? Anyway, nothing ever came to fruition, which was why I was thinking of it the other day. I wonder what happened there. Glad to have Rike back because he always was a terrific vocalist.

Nyquist Theorem 11/17/12 02:15 PM

Well I guess it was actually straight from Brandon in this old article:

We plan to record another album. We love making music. We do not plan to tour.

What's the point? If you have spent nearly half of your life dedicated to your band and your music, then you would understand. Making music is something that I've grown an addiction to. No matter how much I push it away, I always end up needing it again. I will never stop making music. There is no point, really. I think that's why I'm excited about it.

Music is very much a personal thing to us. We are excited to write an album without the thoughts of what people will think. We are excited to write an album that we know will not sell. We will be enjoying the opportunity to create music. Creation without expectation is proving to be a wonderful thing. Making music for the sake of making music. We can honestly say that we don't care what any one is gonna think about it, and I think we truly mean that.

I think he helped write a few songs and may have just done some production on those 2. Always wondered how Dead Poetic got hooked up with that deal.

No one loved four wall blackmail?...

benjgrimm 11/17/12 04:56 PM

Lucas is a killer musician and an excellent dude. I made a t-shirt for his old band way back in the day. Ha

OK good... New Medicines is an excellent album, but I fell in love with four wall blackmail way before new medicines came out, and I got worried when no one here mentioned it

rushour144 11/17/12 09:06 PM

I'm sold! Don't even have to hear what they sound like!

It was definitely a great album. I thought all 3 were pretty good, don't have a favorite and don't have one I hate.

Symphonicaxiom 11/18/12 01:30 AM

I was literally just thinking about that last night when I was listening to diamond eyes. Such a good blend in that song. Regardless I'm excited to hear Brandon's voice in something new. DP uses to be my jam!

I'm pretty sure they technically owe T&N another record as per their contract. That's the last thing I heard about them in like '09. Did you hear about anything changing since then? I would be stoked is there is new planned.

MyEpicThrice 11/18/12 10:22 AM

I still consider Vices one of my all-time favorite CD's and perhaps one of the best alternative rock albums of the 2000's. I loved New Medicines but there was just something about his amazing vocals in Vices (combined with Chino on 'Paralytic' as stated earlier) that just grab you. Everything from 'Pretty, Pretty' and on is mesmerizing with 'Paralytic' and 'Copy of a Copy' being the best ones for that. I'll definitely keep tabs on this.

Also, I went to an Oh, Sleeper concert like 2-3 years ago and wore my Dead Poetic shirt. Got a lot of comments on it including from Oh, Sleeper's merch booth. Was pretty cool to see others recognize them.

New update:

Hoping to possibly give away a 6 song EP for free sometime next year. All the drums and guitars for the new EP are finished and Brandon is working on vocals. Should be cool!

blindrider529 11/18/12 12:09 PM

So happy just to see DEAD POETIC in the title of a news post.

Wow, that'd be awesome. I wonder how Brandon's vocals have aged. Excited for this!

I absolutely agree.

This combination sounds fantastic. Can't wait for material

Spencer Control 11/19/12 03:37 PM

Sounds like this should be amazing.
