Yellowcard Cover Mumford and Sons "I Will Wait" [Video]

You can check out Yellowcard covering "I Will Wait" by Mumford and Sons, acoustically, at their show in Philadelphia last night, in the replies.

No.

I like Yellowcard and I like Mumford & Sons. However, when I saw them do this on Saturday it just sucked the soul right out of the song. Reminded me of when I saw them cover Nirvana's "Dumb" which also was lacking.

yellowcard fans singing along Mumford's hit? btw it's not awful but it's not exactly a fitting cover for them.

Brutal reminder of how great a song I Will Wait is, when a band I enjoy can't cover it.

This was Boston, not Philly.

Was so exceptionally disappointed when they played this. Really ruined the flow of the performance.

SuNDaYSTaR 11/19/12 11:38 AM

Not bad, but the song really doesn't fit his voice.

Nope. Philly at the Electric Factory, it's my video. I submitted this Saturday afternoon, must have just taken a little bit to get posted.

I'd rather have another yellowcard song instead

I really don't want them to play this would really rather another YC song.

Or maybe the NUFAN cover

davecerv 11/19/12 01:00 PM

Just no..ewww. Throwing that in the middle of the set list just seems really awkward. They should replace the time they waste on this song with an old school song from OFTK!

Hojonny 11/19/12 01:49 PM

Love these guys, pretty hard, but this was not good. Appreciate the effort, but his voice is built for an entirely different kind of song.

tdlyon 11/19/12 01:52 PM

They did this when I saw them a few days ago. I kinda enjoyed it but I wish they did another of their own songs instead. Show was incredible besides that though.

mumford and sons are soooooo boring whydsfhasuifhaskh

kidinthebushes 11/19/12 02:46 PM

They need to drop this cover and either do Telescope or For You and Your Denial.

Took this video from the NYC show on Saturday. Not the best video but Ryan gives a bit of an explanation of the song choice.

Here's my video from Boston last night:

not a horrible cover but it is missing that distinctive Mumford emotion behind it.

Don't take covers so seriously. When did everyone become an American Idol judge?

People on this site have become increasingly critical of covers. Yellowcard played it because they wanted to. The fans liked it. Covers aren't about "doing it better than the original", that can just be a bonus. It's a nice way to pay tribute or introduce an audience to another artist.

Yes but if the cover is legitimately terrible, and they could be performing a song of their own in place of the really terrible cover, the criticism is completely warranted.

I remember seeing Ryan tweet that he was a fan of the new Mumford and Sons album, so I'm not too surprised. I like the idea, it's not great but I don't hate it like a lot of people in this thread seem to.

What I want to know is why Mackin didn't bring his violin in, seems like a good fit for this song.

I'm sure they didn't set out to do a terrible cover, and it's a matter of opinion because I heard a bunch of people singing along and clapping. Or, a band could choose to play one less song in their set. It's not like they went into studio, recorded it and everyone hates it. Criticisms of all these live covers have gone overboard on this site.

Dręgon 11/22/12 01:44 AM

Far less boring than the original. Far less bland too, although adding musicality and energy changed the meaning of the song.

firewater 11/26/12 10:48 AM

It wasn't that bad....

lilfields 12/09/12 03:42 PM

I actually really liked the cover, don't understand the hate. I don't even like Mumford & Sons.
