Taylor Swift Is Now A Relationship Advice Columnist

Taylor Swift is the new relationship advice columnist for Seventeen magazine. Isn't this kinda like asking a patient to cure their own disease?

It's Seventeen magazine, is any of it actually supposed to be taken seriously?

Did she replace Jennifer Aniston?

So you've gone through AA or similar programs? Don't mischaracterize what the steps and program is ... that's extremely harmful.

i know what the program is; obviously this is a very different circumstance. but at the same time, AA is built around the people inflicted with alcoholism helping each other get better and have a support system. on a very surface level, this isn't too much different. someone with relationship problems is giving their take on the world of relationships based on their own experience. like AA, it's not going to work for everyone and see a 100% success rate, but I don't think it's the worst thing in the world or even the least bit shocking.

15 Step 11/19/12 11:50 AM

advice 1: stalk the guy until he notices you.
advice 2: if he doesn't like you, then write a song about how gay he is.
advice 3: never ever ever ever ever get back with him
advice 4: always act like you're 17, even if you're 22

This is quite a different take compared to your original, "isn't AA asking a patient to cure their own disease?" Your follow-up isn't saying that as you add a variety of qualifiers. As someone that's been through a similar program, and has spent a lot of time studying the 12 steps of AA ... I find a characterization of the patient curing their own disease extremely misguided if not harmful and blatantly wrong.

Gaugzilla 11/19/12 12:00 PM

The real question is why should we even care she's writing for Seventeen? I think that covers a good .000000000010% of the people that visit here.

I must agree with Jason on this one, as I am a member of AA and have gone through the step work more than once, I don't think it has to do with patient-to-patient anything. Especially because they specifically state that there isn't actually a cure.

Am I the only one who doesn't find her attractive....at all? She is super pale, skinny, and just plays awful music. That should be enough.

Would date her. Would never take dating advice from her.

Should be called "How to get a guy, be extremely clingy, lose him, somehow turn it around that he was the one who got the game fucked up, write over dramatic songs about him and profit in 10 days."

I'd read it.

I find it funny how people give Taylor shit for writing about relationships so much. Is it wrong that she actually writes about things that are from the heart? Pretty sure 90% of the bands covered on this site write about breakups and the ups and downs of love, too. Or do current day pop stars have to write about one night stands, partying, and drinking to be accepted?

just.Starla. 11/19/12 07:57 PM

And this will work out well. Or not.

From the heart? Those kinda people have none. I'm willing to bet Taylor's just like those stupid girls who love attention and treated like shit then go back and forth and somehow get off from it. If you wanna go there.. 80 percent of people in this time don't really even truly know romance is and is pretty much dead. From how shallow and stupid that song " getting back together is" Pop artists like her have no substance. At least the music in this scene is more well thought when it comes to the topic.

Good job judging not only her entire songwriting catalog based on a song that is obviously lighthearted and not meant to be taken seriously, but also on judging someone as a person without even knowing them.

"All Too Well", "Holy Ground", "Everything Has Changed", or "The Last Time" from her new album are easily just as well written pop songs as any Jack's Mannequin song. Yeah, I said it.

Not the only one. Girl looks like an albino rat experiencing an allergic reaction. And the stupid face she makes whenever she wins an award. Good heavens.

I'm ok with people liking her because of her looks. Though I disagree, we all have our own tastes. I'm not ok with people liking her because they think she's talented, however. Because she's the farthest thing from it.

Just shut the fuck up. Taylor Swift is a fucking critical darling. All her albums are critically acclaimed. You sound like an ignorant fool.

What makes her not talented? In mainstream terms she is one of the best. Fact.

You answered your own question. "Mainstream" music is not meant to be talented, it's meant to sell an image and be accessible so millions of people with very little interest in actual talent and art will buy into it. Of course she possesses some talent, but it's nowhere near enough to merit all the attention she gets.

Take a look at Rite-Aid and Papa John's hyping the crap out of her new album. Mass marketing to appeal to the masses.

If it still doesn't make sense, then maybe this will. Artists like Taylor Swift are the McDonalds of the music world. Fast food is cheap, easy to make, easy to consume, and generally not very good for you. Same way with her music. It's accessible, watered down, and people can enjoy it without thinking too hard (or at all). It also doesn't help that she can't sing live.

I guess it just sucks that people like her and Nicki Minaj get all the attention when there are hundred of talented bands out there working their asses off who will never see anywhere near the attention she does.
