Introduce us to your favourite artist (AP mixtape exchange)

So, I think the mixtape threads are pretty fun, they always introduce me to some good music and it's cool to see what people listen to, but I think they run the risk of getting a bit stale if we just repeat them every season or so.

So, I propose an alternative, rather than making a large mixtape of all the stuff you're listening to, you make a small one just highlighting one artist that you love. That way the mixes will be easily digestible as you wouldn't be listening to a sprawling 60 minute mix covering many genres. So, the mixes will be limited to 5 songs, with a max length of 25 minutes. The artist should be someone relatively unknown. Some of the other details we can work out in here, like how many people can participate and when the deadline for submissions is.

Rules
1. Mixtape can't be longer than 25 minutes or contain more than 5 songs.
2. The artist of your choice must not be an AP staple band. Obviously this rule has a little bit more leeway, but nobody needs to hear your five song introduction to Brand New or Jimmy Eat World.
3. Ideally, your chosen artist should have a decent size discography. Again, there's leeway here, but a 5 track mixtape introducing someone to an artist who just has one album feels a little redundant to me.
4. Upload your mixes to Mediafire or somewhere similar and PM them to me.
5. Mixes will be posted on a first come, first served basis, so if you want your mix to be posted early, then send me it early.

Anybody else interested?

Craig Manning 11/27/12 08:36 AM

EndlessPrisoner 11/27/12 09:51 AM

I'm in.
I know who I want to do, too.

georgedcc 11/27/12 09:59 AM

Glad a few people are interested.

Anybody got an opinion on how many people should be allowed to do this? I think 15-20 is a good number, any more than that and interest would drop off. 20 is pushing it a bit, but because the mixes will be so short hopefully people will find it easier to find the time to listen to them.

When do people think a good deadline is? It shouldn't take long to put these together, because they're so short and because you don't have to worry so much with the flow compared to a longer mix. I know the Christmas season is a bit hectic for a lot of people, so would it be alright if I don't start posting them until the new year? Or would people prefer cracking on with it sooner?

Also, we should make sure two people don't pick the same artist, but I'm not sure the best way to safeguard against that.

Cody Nelson 11/27/12 10:00 AM

Yeah, I can handle this if the deadline isn't for a while. Put me down as a yes.

brandon_260 11/27/12 10:19 AM

Sounds cool. I'm in.

deanster321 11/27/12 10:37 AM

I'd like to try taking part in this.

DeathOrGlory 11/27/12 10:40 AM

This sounds like a lot of fun. I can put one in.

sjb2k1 11/27/12 11:13 AM

Well, I would say that Copeland and Third Eye Blind are too 'big' to be included in a thread like this. I'm vaguely aware of Hot Rod Circuit, but I've never listened to them, so I'd say they're suitable.

I dunno though, this is where it gets a little bit tricky.
