Gotye and Fun. Top Spotify Charts in 2012
 

Gotye's hit "Somebody I Used to Know" is Spotify's most played song of the year, Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" and "We Are Young" by fun. are second and third, respectively.

Really thought "Call Me Maybe" would have been number 1.

I wonder what he'll do with that $200.

Gotye = totally deserved. Great single, great album. A rare time when our country champions slightly weird but good pop music.

Call Me Maybe is an example of pop done great. Song is still enjoyable IMO. I used to like the Gotye song but heard it way too much. I hated that fun song the first time I heard it and now I despise it. Their new single Some Nights is absolutely wretched IMO, one of the most obnoxious radio songs I've heard in years.

I enjoy all these songs. It is nice to not have to hear Lil Wayne all over.

fun. should've gotten huge with the first album. Some Nights is just not good at all.

Spotify is at least a slight deterrent from pirating, so hardly a ripoff, I'd say.

Funny how it's the opposite for me. Love that fun. song immediately and I hated the Gotye song just as immediately. Still do for the both of them, although Some Nights isn't that great of an album.

I have mixed feelings about Call Me Maybe though.

man, I was really hoping "Some Nights" would edge out "We Are Young" by now. I like both, but I feel that "Some Nights" is just so much more noteworthy.

Despite my earlier post, I do agree with this. It's great to have a set of relatively normal and level-headed acts top the charts after years of LWs, Nicki Minaj's, etc.

Come on people you're on Spotify,find new songs and discover new bands.

Yeah we are at ends a lot but I'm glad we agree on this one. Even though I hate We Are Young I can at least see how it could be a sing a long anthem or something and it doesn't sound typical to radio. Can't say the same for Some Nights, song just sounds like a mess and parts of it sound like they're deliberately trying to annoy the listener.

I'm coming from the opposite end to that guy in that I think I generally agree with you and think you have good taste but Some Nights is the best song on my AOTY, and pretty close to my favourite song of the year. It's fucking brilliant.

How does "most played song of the year" work when this year isn't over?

why all the fun hate? Some Nights is easily in my top 5 if not best album of the year. It doesn't jive with most of my usual music sensibilities, it's just an incredibly well written album

I hate all of these songs. Never liked any of Fun.'s latest album. Call Me Maybe sounds like it should've been sung by a 15 year old girl. Gotye is just meh.
