Favorite Autumn Albums--Your Thoughts

With September comes the changing colors of leaves, the shortening of the days, and the slow cool toward winter. Autumn is here, meaning an end to the season known for upbeat pop-punk and the ushering in of archetypal somber and reflective albums. What are your favorite albums that remind you of the fall season? Why do these albums in particular do it for you?

lightcollapse 09/03/08 09:29 PM

American Football, Arcade Fire, and Explosions in the Sky. Need to fit these in autumn since winter is dominated by Brand New.

Griff 09/03/08 09:30 PM

The Early November.

Get it?

robster19 09/03/08 09:30 PM

bedlight for blue eyes - the dawn

Anberlin - Blueprints for the Black Market

permanentdan 09/03/08 09:31 PM

terminal-how the lonely keep the lovely, or clarity from j.e.w. i love both of those records so much.

Anton Djamoos 09/03/08 09:31 PM

Cursive - The Ugly Organ

It's moody, it's morose, it's self-loathing...it's brilliant. The cello gives it an autumnal Halloweenish feel to it (see video for "The Recluse" as well) and I remember listening to it while driving through rural cornfields in Pennsylvania and seeing the fading colors surround me while the hills were alive with the cornucopia of color as the leaves changed. I just went overly descriptive, but I remember it vividly.

parkerjamison 09/03/08 09:31 PM

early november, lydia, the honorary title, dangerous summer, brand new, and a few others i cant think of usually get a few more plays from me around this time

Since when did what season we were in make a difference as to what is a great album or not?? I don't care what season it is, I'll bust out my pop-punk albums in January, bust out my Brand New albums in the summer I don't care!! Lol I know, I'm a rebel like that.

TcicatrizMespV 09/03/08 09:35 PM

Dredg-El Cielo is a favorite. And Second Stage Turbine Blade

It's all about the mood and archetypes. Not saying that something has to be great...just what's your favorite. If you love pop-punk in the fall, good for you; explain why.

Brandon Allin 09/03/08 09:38 PM

New Found Glory - Coming Home

Saves the Day-Stay What You Are

It was autumn when i first discovered this amazing, wonderful record.

Klatzke 09/03/08 09:45 PM

Cursive - The Ugly Organ

Not sure why, just listened to it nonstop last autumn.

Minus the Bear - Planet Of Ice (carries on through winter)

Just the atmosphere it creates.

Lovedrug - Everything Starts Where It Ends

First discovered this album in the fall, and it's really just stuck with me. It's just something about Shepard's voice and the music, it gives it a frail quality that I love.

and, i expect Wolftron to be spinning full-time come this Autumn.

TBSEmoKid 09/03/08 09:50 PM

Definitely Copeland's Eat,Sleep,Repeat or John Mayer's Room For Squares.3EB's self titled as well, even though most consider that a summer album. These albums just give me a relaxed feeling, and like the title post says, give me some things to reflect on.

Shooter McGavin 09/03/08 09:53 PM

Brand New
Copeland
Ben Kweller
Cold War Kids
Explosions in the Sky

I don't really have too many fall albums. I have a ton of winter albums though. I can't wait for winter so I can blast The Weak's End. I tried it the other day and it was too soon.

QTheDangerMusic 09/03/08 09:53 PM

(try and listen to venetian snares Rossz Csillag Allat Szuletett and Mum "yesterday was dramatic" for Winter :-))

MyWorldEntire 09/03/08 09:55 PM

Doolb-Oidua 09/03/08 09:56 PM

I'm joining the club by saying that SWYA.

Street to Nowhere is a good one. Actually, whatever I've heard from Dave Smallen post name change is great for fall too.
I mean America and the friends only myspace songs.
Futures- Jimmy Eat World.
The Red Tree- Moneen
uh, also agree with anyone who said Brand New... etc. etc.
And certain Bright Eyes songs vibe well with autumn.

TKTKrob 09/03/08 09:56 PM

just-in. 09/03/08 09:56 PM

Brand New - The Devil and God.
Houston Calls - A Collection of Short Stories
JEW - Futures
Blink 182 - Self Titled
Eminem - The Marshall Mathers LP

chrstianrocker 09/03/08 09:56 PM

sherwood- sing, but keep going
Straylight Run- s/t
I can make a mess like nobody's business
As Tall As Lions
Cary Brothers
Sleeping at Last

... more of thinking records than the general summer albums. slower paced, but still packs a "different" punch. Not really sure what makes a fall album a "fall album"... but i can depict my seasonal favorites.

RXBandit34 09/03/08 09:57 PM

New Found Glory - Coming Home
Valencia - This Could Be A Possibility

saving jonathan 09/03/08 10:01 PM

Well I always have TEN in rotation but especially in the Fall.
I guess the same goes for JEW.
Some other ones would be Daphne Loves Derby's self-titled and Coheed and Cambria's The Second Stage Turbine Blade. Mainly because they hold memories of fall time in them, have that mood to them.
I'll also take some Barenaked Ladies' Maroon.

doomcrs04 09/03/08 10:05 PM

Tell All Your Friends. Soooooo good because of the longing for summer feeling it gives you.

Jimmy Eat World- Clarity
Bad Astronaut- Houston, We Have a Drinking Problem
Weezer- Pinkerton
