They mentioned that several of the bodies were actually buried at the area where the totem was so I'd imagine that area of beach would have to be pretty out of the way.

For some reason Fox only wanted to air 22...

For some reason Fox only wanted to air 22 episodes but they ordered 23 so Unearthed was filmed after the season 1 finale. It ended up airing as the 11th episode of season 2.
