I'm undoubtedly biased being Australian, but I love this tournament. There's nothing better than heading out to Rod Laver Arena when the stadium is filled to capacity and just watching a whole afternoon and evening session of blistering tennis unfold.

Unfortunately I rarely see any tennis talk in the forums anymore, so I need people to keep me company! What are your predictions? I'm tipping tournament victories for Federer and Kvitova. Action starts tomorrow.

It's a damn shame, AP needs more tennis. Nervous to say this, but I think Woz may just get her first major win here. I could also see her falling in the third round too, though, but I'll stick with my pick.

The Australian Open is easily my second favorite tournament because it is such a toss up in the beginning of the year, but I think Federer is going to take it as well. In the women's draw I think it is pretty much a complete toss up because the higher seeds always seem to fall early but that's just me

Iam with you my friend AP does need more tennis. For the womens side I really think you gotta watch out for Sabine Lisicki. And on on the mens saide you cant ever count out Roger. But there are some young guns on the Mens side that could cause some damage.

Lisicki could make a great run here, but even after spraining her ankle, I could see Serena completely dominating. I don't know if she has ever been in better shape, fitness-wise.

She's won before at the AO without any tune up tournaments and her track record at majors speaks for itself. I expect her to do some serious damage this year.

On the men's side, hard to go against the big three, but I think Tsonga and Dolgopolov will be big players, as well. Tsonga probably has the greatest shot of any player outside the big three to win this thing.

Dolgopolov is a very tough match up for players just because of how his playing style is. Him and Roger are projected to face off in the 4th round. I think Roger would beat him but I think Roger would hope hes out by that time. But the Dog is my faveorite player. Raonic is also dangerous. Serena will be scary like always. But in my mind Lisicki and Clijsters are the only two I think can take Serena down.

Also I dont think we can count Del Po out. Because that monster forehand is back and if its on he can beat anybody.

Looking forward to it. The Australian Open might be my favorite major, at least it's the one I get to watch the most of.

Actually, the Australian Open would be a great opportunity for Del Po to jump back out on the scene. The surface plays to his strengths and without the limelight on him, a bit less pressure. What's his draw looking like?

A Dolgopolov/Fed meeting could make for an excellent match.

The most interesting match today, I think, will be young Australian Bernard Tomic up against twenty-second seed Fernando Verdasco. The latter has been struggling with his form, the former just won the AAMI Kooyong Classic by beating such opponents as Monfils, Berdych and Fish all in succession.

Is there anyway you could sticky this thread untill the tournament is over ?

I'll see what I can do for you. It would be nice having it at the top of the page.

From what I remember Del Po could potentially meet Fish in the 4th round or the Quarters I forget what one thoe. Dolgopolov/Fed would be excellent indeed. I forgot where I saw the interview but Fed's was really giving Dolgopolov high regards about his game.

Thank you that would be great ! And speaking of Tomic the kid has some serious game. He's got a hell of a future in front of him. Isent he gonna be on Laver today ?

Dolgopolov's medical history is a little worrisome with that disorder he suffers from, especially since it is flared up by ecstenive travel. Then again, Djoker's ailments used to be a constant hiccup in his game and he seems to be doing okay in terms of success.

I think Del Po could handle Fish easily on this surface if he is playing well and finds his groove in his earlier matches.

Tomic had a great match against Cilic last year. I think he has a great shot at upending Verdasco today, but Verdasco always plays pretty well on hard courts. If Tomic can keep it away from his forehead and make Verdasco come in to net as opposed to trying to run him baseline to baseline, he may up his odds. When Verdasco is on the move, he can pull off some Nadal-esque shots with all that topspin that can really just kill off his opponents momentum instantly.
