Another one bites the dust. This band can't seem to hold onto a bass player. Just in case anyone from Yellowcard sees this I am available for touring full time.
same here brah, same here lol

When I saw the name Ryan, my first thought was that Mackin was leaving. I hope this doesn't slow them down. They've been on a role since they announced their comeback.
You meant "Sean" I think.

Best of luck to O'Donnell and to the rest of YC to get another bassist.

on the topic of pete, why did he leave (the second time) anyways?
I'm not completely sure. When the takeover records digital site was online, and shortly after Yellowcard went on hiatus and the original lineup was doing reunion shows I asked this question on the message board (around summer 2008). Surprisingly, Warren was active on the board to promote the reunion shows for the original lineup, and he briefly answered my question...he said he heard / speculated that Pete was having a lot of arguments with Ryan, and was fed up with how much he controlled the band and therefore left in October 2007. I was completely shocked the second time that Pete left...I also speculate that he was sick and tired of constantly touring, and at that point Yellowcard didn't know they would go on hiatus.

I'm shocked that Sean O'Donnell just left Yellowcard, I thought he would be their bassist for a long time to come. I'm happy this isn't deterring Yellowcard from making a new album, and that they'll still be recording it in a month. I speculate that Ryan Key will play bass on the album (just like he did for "Only One"), since it would be too chaotic / last minute to get another bassist to play on the album right now. I think they'll find another bassist instead of being a four-piece and hiring someone to play bass with them while they're on tour. I speculate they'll find a new guy, though I hope they can get Warren or Pete back! (Though I doubt that would happen). Pete definitely contributed a lot to the writing process in the past, and he's a really talented guitarist and piano player in addition to being a great bassist. He seems like a really cool guy and he's my favorite guy who's ever been in Yellowcard...I think as of now 11 people have officially ever been a member of the band? I liked the new Yellowcard album, though in my opinion their albums with Pete as a member (especially Lights and Sounds and Paper Walls) are their best. I hope the new album has more than 10 songs, that was a major weakness with their most recent album.

Also I'd like to add...we probably all know that Pete left the first time (in early 2003) because he was sick and tired of touring. It would be cool if they got Alex back, especially since he never recorded with them, though it would be awkward to ask him to rejoin since he was kicked out in favor of Pete returning in early 2004. When Pete left for good in October 2007 (in the middle of that tour), Josh Portman joined as a touring bassist, though I wonder why they didn't ask him to permanently join YC at that point or when they reformed (perhaps because Josh was too busy with other bands?) Could Josh maybe become the new bassist now?

I also heard that basically Pete didn't want YC to be pop-punk-ish anymore and have the new songs be 2 weeks from twenty ish, meaning very slow and club jazz-y. Thanks for the response though. I also think to have alex lewis would be cool but it has been like 10 years, i figure he moved on and is doing others things in his life.Matt rubano is talented but Idk how he would fit in the band.

I saw yellowcard in sept 07. I do recall pete was very still and seemingly disinterested, even for pete's standards. everyone else was still into it. just wanted to throw that out there.

Even though I'm so sad about the departure of the bass player from my favorite band in the whole universe, this made me LOL so hard, man.

That's a good point...I've only seen Yellowcard once, and that was in April 2011 when they opened for All Time Low in Toronto. That was a great show, though I wish I had enough money to see them a few months later when they were headling a tour and playing longer sets...they should have announced that October 2011 Toronto show before the one in April (lol). Watching Yellowcard shows from 2007 I can see what you mean, Pete seems really depressed in them, whereas at the show I went to last year everyone in the band seemed really into it. Here's an amazing video which shows how talented Pete is - Yellowcard live at myspace sessions in 2007, playing Gifts and Curses, with Pete going back and forth between piano and bass! Even when I used to play piano I would definitely make a mistake if I only had to play piano for this song, I don't even know how Pete played so well standing up...
