It was a very well written article...however it feels a bit empty to me.
He states that the LGBTQ community are treated as "2nd class citizens" yet he doesn't really touch on how...
He mentioned people using "gay" as a insult and not being able to have a legally sanctioned marriage; while I understand that the first example is incredibly demeaning I don't understand what he wants people to do? Be more vocal that it shouldn't be used as an insult? That's a good point but again it feels empty.
Also, am I reading it correctly or is he asking all straight people who believe that the LGBTQ community should be able to partake in a legally sanctioned marriage boycott marriage altogether? Isn't that a bit self defeating?

Doesn't everyone know how?

Didn't read that at all, though.

Yeah, I think most people can see pretty clearly how the LGBTQ community are treated as second class citizens (marriage, couples benefits, adoption, job/housing discrimination, etc). Although there are some smaller instances in addition to the big ones that I think are pretty outrageous too - like the fact that blood donation forms ask, "From 1977 to the present, have you had sexual contact with another male? Even once?" (hint: if you check yes, you can't donate, even though all blood donations are individually screened for disease after donation anyways).

Really enjoyed this article and found it surprisingly well written. The man is awesome, simple as that. I'm really glad he's decided to be so vocal about this because we really do need the help of straight allies to change attitudes and perceptions, which ultimately lead to greater change in the way LGBT people are treated both socially and legally.

Maybe it's that I live in Austin and people here are more accepting than most other places? I just found the article more rousing than informative, it called for action but it wasn't very concrete.
Edit: To his credit, he brings up a great rallying cry by calling people to put away their passivity on the issue; while I disagree that gay partnerships can be called marriages I completely stand behind him in saying that we need to stop allowing verbal and social abuse against someone who's made a different choice than yourself.

The line that startled me was this: "Do we want to indulge in rights that are not for everyone, particularly that of marriage?"

The only Fun. shirt I own, but one that I absolutely had to pick up. All proceeds go to Revel & Riot, a group devoted to promoting awareness about the issues facing the LGBTQ community and the advances to overcome them. It's $15, and for anyone who downloads a leaked copy of the new record rather than buying it, I'd like to think you can at least throw some cash to a great cause instead.
