I hope they will make a new album soon. So many of their songs has really helped me through a lot of shit in my life. Post your favorite music, discuss how they affected you. Let me start:

>moved from Philippines to USA
>FOB (Fresh off the boat)
>knew English well, cause I was enrolled in a private school when I was in the Philippines(Mainly spoke English in school)
>got no friends
>very shy to talk to anybody in college, cause I think my English is not good enough
>insecurities kicking in
>realize how different I used to be socially when I was still in the Philippines
>Few months passed
>get homesick
>miss old friends
>talk to them on facebook
>most of them happy with college and have healthy social lives
>browse facebook one night
>see profile of a girl who was from the same area where I lived in the Philippines
>shes in Canada
>tried messaging to her
>she responds
>we talk
>almost everyday for the next month or so
>tried to tell her that I love her
>she responds she feels the same way
>talk to her everyday
>tried to make it work
>ended up not working
>cried
>took me a year to get over a 6 month long distance relationship
>I was 19 when it happened.
>its amazing how a person get so lonely and desperate that s/he goes online looking for comfort
>realize that I got clingy and stupid
>hated myself for a year
>grades suffered
>contemplated suicide
>my life was a mess
>became an alcoholic
>stole fathers alcohol
>drank his liquor
>he didn't even realized I stole from his liquor cabinet
>brows internet one night
>friend from back home sends me message with link
>click link
>Youtube -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f43WbnN2tBU -- same link from 3 years back.
>pulled up lyrics to the song
>cried when I listened to it the 2nd time.
>embraced modest mouse after that
>felt like the song knew what I was going through
>still haven't got over that LDR
>life a little better now
>grades back to normal
>still not that much friends
>but still OK

Its a little summary I'm 21 now. That's how Modest Mouse helped me, they made me cry when I was bottling all my shit in. I don't mean to be all emotional and cheesy but, the band really helped me through a lot. I am not ashamed to tell you my story.

One of the first indie bands (well, formerly indie now) I ever got into. I was about 11 years old, and The Lonesome Crowded West had come out a year earlier. I found out about them through some guy on - of all places - the No Use for a Name message board! My first MM song was "Doin' the Cockroach," and it remains my favorite. The Lonesome Crowded West idefinitely ranks somewhere among my 40 favorite albums of the 90s.

I hate everything that they've done since The Moon and Antarctica.

That's good. TBH, I never really knew about them until 3 years ago. Bankrupt on Selling was the first song I heard from them, its cause I grew up in a different part of the world that's why I never knew about them. After that I searched, backtracked on their recent albums and loved them ever since.

Ugh, really? Good News, IMO, has a grand total of 3 good songs on it: 'The Ocean Breathes Salty," "The View," and "Bukowski." Aside from those tracks, it sounds like an amateur band trying to do Modest Mouse songs, with "Float On" and "Bury Me with It" being the major offenders.

modest mouse is my favorite band. my ranking would go something like this:

no one's first, and you're next>we were dead>the lonesome, crowded west>good news>building nothing out of something>moon and antarctica>the fruit that ate itself>this is a long drive>everywhere and his nasty parlour tricks>sad sappy sucker

that was damend hard. i love more or less everything they've done, but i generally think that they benefit from maturity and production value.

the lonesome crowded west>every other album.

cause its the 1st album I heard from them, I could literally cite every lyric in every song of that album. but I do like tM&A. I would probably put that on my second.

Anyone every saw them live? I always wanted to watch them live, from what I see on youtube, Brock is drunk on some of his live performances. I can't imagine the crowd being not pissed.

No album will ever be as good as Lonesome Crowded West. No one, not now, not ever, anyone.
The lyrics, even if written 15 years ago, still describe perfectly what a 20 something guy feels about society, consumerism and life in general.
Every line, every riff, every bark and scream is perfect. I feel sad because I will never see that Modest Mouse again.

Lonesome>The Moon And Antarctica>Building Something>Good News/This is a long drive.
