is there a website that has information for upcoming various compilations that unsigned bands can be a part of?

also, if any of your sites want to promote a HUGE 500 band compilation i'm working on, link them here:

What's up with the Anti-MySpace attitude this site has? Most of the sites in the OP can't be getting that great of web traffic! Check the stats on any reliable source and MySpace is up there, still. If I have to prove my point with references, I will. Purevolume... why? They only allow 4 songs unless you pay! SoundClick.com allows unlimited uploads!

NOBODY I know uses myspace. If you aren't logged in, you can only listen to one full song. The site is barely functional and ugly as hell. Bandcamp needs to be the new standard for sharing your music, either stream or download.

That's nice. Magically wave your wand and make people go to Bandcamp. I'm sure it'll work fine

Dude, I'm on B'camp right now as we speak trying to update my album. Do you know how freakin' sloooooooooooowww that thing is? Try about an hour per song! And I know it's not my connection because I uploaded .wav's to Cd Baby and it didn't take near this freaking long!

Put any band that's doing anything at all in to Google or Yahoo. MySpace will come up in probably the 1st 10 (or less) hits you get. Guaranteed.

I know Bandcampl let's people do albums & have a cool design without pay, but be realistic. It's not no social hotspot. Tumblr makes more sense than that!

It's been a couple of weeks since I had a Google alert on MySpace, so I'm sure there's more to be found than here, but this is what I collected over the past couple of months:

MySpace is involved in promoting the Big Easy Express Documentary, a celebration of musical heritage:

http://www.marketwatch.com/story/in-...ial-2012-03-08

They have just announced a web series with Andrew WK based on Indie musicians:

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/fox-di...160000783.html

MySpace.com/video is the #6 Video site overall, as of Feb 2012:
http://www.ebizmba.com/articles/video-websites

According to CommScore, more time is spent on MySpace than Google+:
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000... 03742390.html

And also according to CommScore, it's the 50th most popular site in the US:
http://www.sitetrail.com/2012/03/02/...comment-209497

MySpace is still in the top 10 Social networking sites, beating out Google+, according to Nielsen:
http://blog.nielsen.com/nielsenwire/...-2011-digital/
(Scroll down to the chart were MySpace is mentioned.)

A recent survey of Internet Privacy issues showed MySpace still used by a healthy one-third of those in the study:
http://blog.usamp.com/blog/2012/01/3...media-privacy/

MySpace is #16 on Seomoz:
http://www.seomoz.org/top500

And is in the Top 7 trending brands on Twitter:
http://thenextweb.com/twitter/2012/0...e-infographic/

Google lists MySpace as #61 out of the Top 1000 sites worldwide, with over 45 Million unique visitors and over 1 Billion page views! It's still ahead of Tumblr & HuffPo. Surprisingly, Reddit is nowhere in sight:
http://www.google.com/adplanner/static/top1000/
Just looking at that list and counting Social networking sites, MySpace comes in at number 5.

And it's still beating out Tumblr, Pinterest & Google+ according to CommScore:
http://www.techradar.com/news/intern...ap-commentform

A month later, it's STILL beating out Google+!
http://www.zdnet.com/blog/facebook/facebook-is-used-19x-more-than-twitter-135x-more-than-google-/9601

MySpace TV is also mentioned positively in these articles:
http://venturebeat.com/2012/01/18/th...logy-for-2012/
http://www.v-net.tv/myspace-unveils-...d-screen-sync/

CNET has reported that “MySpace has got it's groove back!”

Battle over hot Brit band

Last Updated: 12:17 AM, March 20, 2012
Posted: 10:48 PM, March 19, 2012

Sean Parker’s Spotify went into battle with Myspace, co-owned by Justin Timberlake (who played Parker in “The Social Network”), over the hot band Mumford & Sons at the South by Southwest festival in Austin. Management for the Grammy-nominated British folk rockers negotiated with both Myspace and Spotify about playing at their respective parties during the festival. Sources tell us Facebook co-founder Parker was keen for Mumford to perform at Spotify’s Thursday night bash in Austin alongside A$AP Rocky. But a source told us, “Sean really wanted Mumford & Sons . . . but in the end Mumford played the Myspace show Saturday night at the University of Texas to 8,000 fans.” Despite that (and rumors that Parker may still be sore over Timberlake’s portrayal of him in the Facebook flick), Parker still was not going to miss the band. Our source said, “Imagine everyone’s surprise when Parker then showed up at the Myspace concert to check out the competition.” Bryan Ling, who manages LA group Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, who appear with Mumford & Sons in the film “Big Easy Express,” told us he had negotiated with both Spotify and Myspace, but decided to go with the latter because it was the better platform to promote the movie, which world-premiered at SXSW. Ling said, “This wasn’t about money, this was about the film. We wanted to do something special to promote the film. I came to Sean and Spotify with the idea, but we realized Myspace had the better platform to show the trailer, and through that fans would sign up for the show. The bands didn’t get paid.” Despite that, Parker was in fine fettle at SXSW, boldly declaring that Spotify “will overtake iTunes in terms of the amount of revenue we contribute to the music labels in under two years.” Myspace declined to comment.

Very "outside the mainstream" sounding band, promoting MySpace as one of the places you can get their new song (as well as purevolume, soundcloud, etc.):

Thanks for all of the helpful tips! Right now we primarily use Bandcamp, Facebook & Reddit to promote our releases and every once in a while, we post promo videos on youtube.

We'll try some of the other sites you suggested!

It takes me like 20 seconds to upload songs to bandcamp...not sure why it's taking so long for you. But I guarantee you more people check facebook/bandcamp/soundcloud then myspace these days. Most blogs/sites/labels I've seen lately specifically ask you NOT to submit myspace links, and to use soundcloud/bandcamp.

I just NOW finished the last track out of 12 I was updating! Albeit I took a nap for part of it, but that was because it kept me up all night long! Almost 24 hour ordeal.

MySpace isn't much better for .wavs, but I can choose .wma or another format if I want, so that there's less hassle.

All all I have to say is those labels are either not worth much or they aren't caught up yet. That link I posted where MySpace beat out Spotify for the Mumford & Sons concert settles the issue as far as I'm concerned.

Who the F needs labels in the age of the internet, anyway? Labels, PRO's, publishers - they ALL just want a cut. PRO's like ASCAP & BMI have been going around getting open mics shut down, which hurts musicians in the long run. The less middlemen, the more freedom for me.

Fuck labels, man. With a CD Baby account I have a 5-album record deal, that I paid for MYSELF. Nobody's breaking that contract, and I can take as long as I damn well want.

PS: Adele was discovered on her MySpace, so you might want to enlighten those labels, because it's still a force no matter what they "think."
