If you don't understand how saying [spoiler]Robb and Caitlyn die at the wedding[/end spoiler] is worth tagging I don't know how serious I can you. There are posts that mention a wedding and it's implications without discussing the specifics. Those posts don't need spoiler tags because nothing is spoiled.

By your logic I could discuss the chapters of The Winds of Winter that have been released without spoiler tags because this is a discussion about the books

Yes, that absolutely is my logic. As far as I'm concerned anything that has been released is no longer a spoiler. I would give books maybe a 3 month grace period for spoilers at most.

Your definition of spoilers is basically any plot point that hasn't happened on the show yet, or that you haven't gotten to yet. There's already a thread for discussing the show and it's not this one. There are 5 books out, this is a thread for discussion of them as a whole - it's really silly to expect a spoiler tag for something that happened several books ago. I don't understand how you can come into a thread for discussing the books and not expect to be spoiled if you haven't read them yet.

Yea we started off spoilering in the beginning of the thread. It's just silly though. If people haven't read the books they don't belong in here

Spoilers were posted in the Potter book threads before movies came out too

what is everyone's most satisfying death so far? mine was Janos' Slynt's. When I read it was around 2 am and my wife was asleep next to me. I wanted to stand up and celebrate.

also, who was the most depressing death for everyone? mine was Ygritte. I loved her character. Robb's didn't bother me as much as everyone else.

I would have to go with a tie between Shae and Joff for your first q. Second q, probably the Old Bear.

Would someone tell me what, if any, are the major changes from the books UP TO SUNDAY'S EPISODE? I'm aware that some of the battle scenes have been cut because of budget, but from the sound of things, this show might get in a much different direction than the books, which would make me sad because Martin deserves to have his vision translated to the screen relatively intact. I hope HBO doesn't pull a True Blood or Walking Dead with this.

There aren't any significant changes that have yet affected the storyline ala the Dexter books or The Walking Dead. Mostly so far it's been certain plotlines moved up to give some characters more screentime, certain minor characters being merged or excluded from the show, and tweaked plot points within arcs that still lead to the same outcome.

For instance, the leadership of Qarth is slightly different but with the same major characters (X.X.D., Pyat Pree). The "someone took my dragons!!!" plotline we just saw didn't happen in the books AFAIK. Jon Snow getting separated from the scout team with Ygritte didn't happen in the books, but they do share a ton of time together in the story so it's not that big of a deal IMO.

Other plot changes include Littlefinger travelling to Storm's End to meet with Renly & Cat, and him travelling to Harrenhal to meet with Tywin. On that note, the book Tywin never stayed in Harrenhal for the period he is right now.

That said, there is a little trepidation among bookreaders right now that the currently minor changes may somehow cause a ripple effect making the changes major. So far I'm not seeing it, nor am I worried about it.

without the Reeds i'm confused about how Rickon is suppose to go off with Osha, and Davos is sent to find them.

I'm pretty sure Osha is going to end up going with Bran, and maybe Maester Luwin will end up with Rickon? They seem to have been setting that up with Osha talking to Bran about magic and his dreams. Or they will leave together and maybe split up later. Kind of a bummer to lose the connection to Howland and I like the Reeds, but they aren't that important.

I feel like, with Martin so involved with the process, that won't happen.

nevermind. we're not spoilertagging in here. if Luwin goes with Rickon then what happens with his death? I was sure they were going to kill him in that last episode, haha.

I really hope the Reeds show up at some point. It does make sense that Osha would go with Bran though, if they want to keep her in the show.

Just saw this on the GoT wiki:
Quote:
He was announced as appearing in Game of Thrones and was expected to début in the second season based on comments by George R.R. Martin. He was not cast for the first season. However, the lack of an entry for Brynden on the HBO website's family tree for House Tully has led some fans to speculate that the character may be cut altogether. This was later given more credence when Martin reported not seeing any casting tapes for the character for the second season.

Will be pretty mad if that happens.

One thing I will say if the Reeds really are cut (instead of pushed back to S3, which may be possible)...what happens if one of them plays a crucial role in something that happens to Bran in the upcoming book? I assume we're going to be seeing a lot of Bran in WoW. His storyline is getting somewhere.
