12:53 AM on 07/16/12 | the flicker and the flame Honestly sounds like Butch Walker could have helped write that hook. Sounds massive. Hope it brings them some success. From everything I've heard so far, I'm excited to listen to this album. Wasn't really a fan of the last one, but Paper Walls is a personal favorite.

02:36 AM on 07/16/12 | this album has plenty of kick. |
I hope you can understand my trepidation at this stage though, we haven't heard anything as aggressive as For You and Your Denial, for example.
|
04:14 AM on 07/16/12 | bands don't keep the same sound for 10 years, and this song isn't a representation of the entire album. |
Is it really shocking that a bands sound changed from a record they released 10 years ago? |
no, i understand all that. this single just... sounds like katy perry, or linkin park to me, which is not very exciting.
|
05:11 AM on 07/16/12 | I liked the two released songs more.
|
05:24 AM on 07/16/12 | My favorite band, disappointed in the overall insanely "pop" sound on all of these tracks so far. I love Yellowcard so much and feel they are at their best when they loose their shit and rock out. these tracks are so damn poppy.... With that being said, they still do pop better than any other band out their, so i cant be too upset.

05:52 AM on 07/16/12 | We can gallop upon the sea... meh, it sounds a bit too poppy for my tastes
|
06:09 AM on 07/16/12 | Way more poppy than I was expecting. |
Ditto. | | |
|
06:34 AM on 07/16/12 | So poppy, so catchy.
It's good, but "Awakening" is probably my favorite off the record - for now, at least |
That scares the shit out of me. I think Awakening is the weakest opener on any of their albums.
|
07:18 AM on 07/16/12 | no, i understand all that. this single just... sounds like katy perry, or linkin park to me, which is not very exciting. |
how about you wait till you hear the whole song/album before judging it off of a 30 second clip.
|
07:25 AM on 07/16/12 | so far, in this thread, this song has been compared to All Time Low, Katy Perry, and Linkin Park. I just dont see it. I think the clip sounds fantastic though. Yellowcard has been more pop-rock then pop-punk since ocean avenue so I dont really understand why people are surprised that this sound poppy. I am pretty sure Ryan even admitted this in an interview somewhere after Lights and Sounds failed (loved that record). Said something like it showed him that he needs to stick to what he was good at which is writing 3 1/2 minute pop-rock songs.
|
07:27 AM on 07/16/12 | They played Always Summer at Warped and it was amazing.
Can't wait for this to drop!
|
07:29 AM on 07/16/12 | You know Craigslist? That's my list how about you wait till you hear the whole song/album before judging it off of a 30 second clip. |
a 30 second clip in below 128 bitrate. the quality on this clip is baaaaaaad.

07:58 AM on 07/16/12 | Are people really freaking out about YELLOWCARD writing a "pop" song?
I'm glad they're releasing this as a single -- let's hope Hopeless tries getting it out there. Capitol totally dropped the ball on the potential that Keeper had. |
Definitely agree about missing out with Keeper. That song would've exploded. As for Here I Am Alive, this song is going to be absolutely massive. I don't want to say more about it until I hear the full song though.
That scares the shit out of me. I think Awakening is the weakest opener on any of their albums. |
I disagree, but I know what you mean. They typically have energetic, huge-sounding openers from the very beginning (i.e. "The Takedown," "The Sound of You and Me"), while "Awakening" doesn't have that - but for me, it works. I also loved " Bug Light" from Big If so maybe that's why, but even though I haven't heard the album I think it's still a great, catchy opener.

This song at least sounds way more poppy than anything they've ever done but in no way is that a bad thing.

That's what I mean though. they have always done a fantastic job of playing their cards right when it comes to track listing. I think Awakening is a great song, I really do, But for an opener not so much. The chord progression is more melancholy, the intro doesn't blow your senses, if anything I see it more as an album closer, or track 3/4. I also know that I am assuming too much and to critical since I have not heard the whole album.
i am hyper analyzing because like i said, yellowcard is one of my favorite band of all time. I have such huge expectations for this album, i hope it delivers.
