To be honest it depends on the girl. Start with small gestures and see how she reacts to them. It's not disrespectful to try and get sex on the first date if she wants it as well.

No, I think there was just some sort of miscommunication. The OP said that he thought it was wrong to push for sex on the first date, therefore I assumed that his morals were at least slightly in tact and he isn't the type to have sex on the first date. The girl on the otherhand, if she was just wondering why he didn't make a move (kiss or something) then she is fine, but if she is wondering why he didn't try to nail her, then she is probably used to putting out right away and is not LTR material. (imo)

Okay that's fine... I just don't see where the disagreement in-lies, but no point in arguing about it. I just think that if her expectation is for the guy to try to sleep with her right away (and she seemed a bit disappointed that he didn't try) then she probably has guys try to sleep with her right off the bat often... and follows suit.

Did you put your arm around her or hold her hand or anything that would have given her an idea that you were into her? If you didn't make *any* moves whatsoever, then yeah, she has a good reason to wonder. If you held her hand or something then she's just majorly insecure. I don't think it's the worst that she told you that, she's probably just trying to figure out where she stands with you. I applaud her for being upfront in asking rather than stressing out about it silently like most girls do.
