Actually just after I posted this I remembered this was actually a random thought from last night right before I went catatonic for the next 12 hours.

Lightning strike across the dazzling beach
Golden sun blown streak
Feet treading sand, blown glass in the Hands
Formed to ask the pants where they've been worn
Are they too worn to seek the last, the last truly sweet thing?
You're a sweet thing.

It sounds peaceful to me. Just the way the words flow. I like it. Calming

Thank you I was actually hungry and sleep-deprived when I wrote it down which is when I'm at my writing best haha the other thread I posted is free verse so it's less flowy though I like writing rhyming things.

I thrive on sleep deprivation when it comes to writing though school work tends to suffer my writing process can be a bit masochistic at times haha which is a bit sad. And yeah sometimes I go through long dry spells and then come back renewed and refreshed. I'd just give it time.

I don't know what my style even is. I just sometimes think up a topic I feel strongly about and try to word it right with the melodies I think up. I'm about to have more time to myself in a few weeks so then I know my writing will pick up. I'll end up continuing my book instead of writing tho.

In order to discover the style I felt represented my thoughts best I had to explore a lot of literature and music and I found Jets to Brazil and anything else Blake Schwarzenbach does basically is the kind of style I enjoy and as far as literature the Beatniks specifically Jack Kerouac are the writers that inspire me greatly. So it's definitely a matter of exploring yourself and researching others in order to create something that's your own. It takes times and I'm far from finished so just let yourself progress as naturally as possible or unnaturally if that's what works for you best. I'm sure whether you write songs or books it'll eventually begin to feel more your own as long as you keep at it. You mentioned you like to try and brainstorm topics that you feel strongly about to write about which is always a great way to begin just never restrict yourself to one specific thing unless to you it is absolutely the only thing you could ever feel yourself writing about.

Actually I take that back. I do have my own style. I like to write kinda vague with my wording so people kinda grasp the meaning of the lyrics their own way. Also I never use words like he, him, girl, she, guy, man, woman. I always say you, therefore when people read it they aren't barred from the subject that might be on their minds. Read a couple of my songs and you'll see.

I like that style. Like you're saying "take this as you will" to your audience. Giving power to the reader to figure the meaning out for his or herself.

I respect that though I couldn't say the same myself. Though I love writing about things that mean absolutely nothing because it's so easy to take nothing, nonsense if you will and make it whatever you want it to be. Like in that Jets to Brazil song when he sings "You can take this as you like."

That would actually be a challenge for me, writing about nothing. I'll have to try one day. I always trend to stretch for meaning no matter what I write

That's the beauty of it. When you write about nothing upon second reading meaning begins to impose itself without you even having to try because it's human nature haha.

I suppose that's true. Many lines I've written sounded like nonsense until I returned to them later, added meaning, and put it in the song.

I like it. It feels like a subconscious dream, foreshadowing some unnerving moment. I know you say it's some random thought, so maybe I'm just imposing meaning. Having said that, I get a sense of a calm before the storm.
