I think them not covering Bruce, either on tour, on any of these EPs, or in the bonus tracks to Handwritten says something. Maybe they are trying to move on from that influence: it certainly seemed like it on American Slang. But I think they came back to that kind of sound with this record, which is I guess why I'm confused. Not such a bad thing, but given the choice between seeing them going full Springsteen during their concert encore and suffering through their cover of "Sliver," the choice is an easy one.

Well, I feel like the Springsteen influence will always be there for 'em. Y'know, so long as they continue sounding like an American band from New Jersey. Haha.

I feel like Gaslight are one of those bands who will never sit still in terms of influences, bands they choose to cover, etc. I never really saw them as being the "Sons of Springsteen" the way most do. The influences have always seemed to run deeper and more diverse than that. Granted, it was a big and obvious one but yeah...

The "Sliver" cover isn't bad, it's just unnecessary. It sounds exactly like the original. But, much like the Bon Iver cover? It all probably stems from how much you care about Nirvana in the first place. Haha.

I mean, yeah, they're more disciples of classic rock in general than just Springsteen descendents.

To be fair, I just think "Sliver" is an awful, awful song in the first place, so that's my beef with them covering it. But you're right, I don't much care for Nirvana and that's my least favorite of all of their songs.

^on the topic of covers, I think the Sliver cover is preeetttyyy bad. I'm a pretty big Nirvana fan, but I hate that song. As covers go, however, TGA did a great job retaining the sound.

I just realized how much of an oddball song Diamond Church is, compared to the rest of the disco. Still an absolutely amazing jam, though.
