out of that list? wilmington. the end. shows come there, or you can drive 2.5 hours to raleigh for like every show ever. also, it's the beach. right there.

edit: honestly man, with weather and location as a factor the only real options are CA or NC

Atlantaaaaaa. Emory University. Fantastic school. We get wonderful tours most of the time, if that's a deciding point for you. MO lives here. Atlanta =/= Georgia, so you don't have much to worry about with rednecks.

I'm edging towards North Carolina. How hard is it to travel long distances without a car in USA? Planes will be too expensive so buses and trains are my only option. Things that I want to see while I'm there:

Grand Canyon
New York
Smokey Mountains

Not sure what else

Our public transportation is limited at best--certainly not at all what you're used to in England. But the Smokies are in NC and I'm sure there's an Amtrak (train) that goes from Raleigh to NY, or at least I would think.

I would say that, as much as I love all of the South, NC is a good bet because some of the less-shitty aspects of the South are less prevalent there. Plus Raleigh's a pretty awesome city if you're near there.

Get a car.
But if you're going to school in the south, North Carolina is one of the best options.

I'd recommend community college first, just to save money. That or just waiting to establish residency. Also,

I think he was just doing a year abroad, so if I were him I'd chose something more akin to a typical university to get the experience of a North American university. I've studied abroad twice in Europe and their universities are quite a bit different.

South Carolina is not so nice. I totally recommend North Carolina. You have a few cities that are of decent size, but not the size of Chicago or New York. Plus, the culture of the South is just completely different than anything you've experienced in England. I spent my summer in Manchester and got to see how completely different our societies are. Loved England by the way! Want to move there soon.

Could you give me a summary of the differences? Thanks

EDIT: Yeah I'm doing a year abroad, not moving to America, as much as I'd love to.

I see that Toledo was on your list. I don't know shit about that school or the city, but as someone who has suffered from Ohio his whole life, don't go to Toledo.
