Sympathy, this is my best disguise.
My skin stepped out for my bones to dry up,
for the rest of the world outside...to see.
You see I bleed on the side
It's a part time thing, a private affair
I try to keep it out of the light.
I must confess, I didn't recognize you tonight
Dressed up like my love.
And I hate these things but I always attend,
a little sip of something to take off the edge.
And I make my way through the ghosts in the room,
trying to crack a smile.
And who you supposed to be?
You look like heaven tonight
And me I'm a tomb, a corpse in a suit,
trying to look a little alive.
Are you alright?
I worry sometimes,
are you dressed up to take my life?
Keep it coming, keep it coming.
And I think I saw you for the flash of a moment,
Your broken heart and the body that holds it
I lost your scent in the flash of the party.
The big bright lights, baby, constantly haunt me.
I've never been right, have you ever been lied to?
I think I just saw the same scars upon you.
But is this a disguise? A masquerade for me?
Keep it coming, keep it coming.
And who you supposed to be?
Hey you look just like my love.
And who you supposed to be?
Are you dressed just like my love?

Are you dressed just like my love for Halloween?

Great words as always. Ad the actual full band version I've just watched sounds good too. But all the tracks I see him play acoustically are the exact same chord progression.
also, picked up that Hold You Up 10inch EP over the weekend. been listening to it like crazy since.
Dude, you have no idea! Twas all sorts of fun. The only downside to the evening was having to wake up early for work the next day, and the crowd not reacting--positively or negatively--to Polar Bear Club. But those were my only gripes with the show. Haha.
On a fun note? I made mention of how I didn't have the Hold You Up 10" in passing when I was at the merch table to my girlfriend, and a little while later she disappeared and came back with the 10" in-hand for me! It was a pleasant surprise, to say the least. Nice to have a physical copy finally. And still liking the Bon Iver cover.
It was pretty phenomenal. Songs from a number of releases, covers, the new song, fun banter between songs. It's one of my favorite shows of the year. Easily.

There is a certain chord progression (vi-IV-I-V (Em-C-G-D, for example) if you know a little music theory) that I consistently think of as "The Gaslight Anthem Progression" because it shows up in at least half of their songs, if not more. Brian always sings great melodies over it, but it really is all over their music.

TGA ususally uses it in the Am-F-C-G form, and, from there, mix those chords around with a few different tunings/capos.
I know quite a few TGA songs on guitar, but keeping them straight in my head is always difficult because of the similarities.

Haha glad to know I'm not the only one who noticed this. Saves the Day also loves the vi-IV-I-V chord progression, and often uses the Em-C-G-D progression you mentioned. Not as bad as blink though...I think more of their songs are I-V-vi-IV than not haha

I can't hear that I-V-vi-IV progression without playing the riff from "Dammit" over it in my head.
