I'm just giggling at 60-year-old criticism that's been responded to, critiqued, argued against, refined, etc. endlessly by scholars in the interim being tossed out like a holy text that proves Frank Ocean is objectively not good. Jesus. New Criticism in its pure form is seriously ancient at this point.
Edit: There'd be a lot more to discuss if you were namedropping, say, Stanley Fish.
I mean I'm not a fan but the guy has a voice, as for writing I'm not the best judge of that
why are we supposed to accept this new criticism theory as complete and utter fact and if we don't abide by it our criticism/thoughts/opinions are invalid? I mean common not everything has to be discussed with a damn philosophy book in front of you

That song proves he's a great singer and songwriter.
How does 'Strawberry Swing' prove he's a good songwriter? I mean, I am of the camp that he totally is, but he more than paid homage to a Coldplay song with that track.
Tate is a douche lol Frank Ocean is a pretty good vocalist. Tate's avatar? Shitty vocalist. Sub-par, to be a little bit nicer. Why the virtual pissing contest?
