It's seriously not that bad. It's their worst album for sure, but even still.

I think I agree with this. I like to put it as "least best," because it is good, but it lacks teeth (compared to their other stuff), and I still zone out hard during their jammy parts.

I agree with this assessment.

My favourite record of theirs. It's jarring. Like if the Huskers put out Zen Arcade and then Warehouse with nothing in between. I didn't get into Open Your Heart much because Japandroids' album was so much better, but I dig this new sound. Pity they probably won't perfect it, next record could be synth-rap for all anyone knows.

I've been thinking about how similar their sound progression has been to that of Husker Du and the Replacements

I bet this record is a sign of what's to come. They already have the follow-up to this album recorded.

Hopefully, then their next album could be their Let It Be. And not the Beatles album.
