That would be awesome if that became a standard of sorts.

I wonder if there is anyway to show the success of albums released that way vs albums that are promoted forever.

People at Kanye's level would be hard to compare to TDS and the likes.

I've been thinking about it for a while now, and I honestly think that any artist or band would benefit from finishing an album, announcing it with a single and releasing it 3-4 weeks later. People have short attention spans these days - when an album is first announced, everyone is stoked on it, but the more time that passes, the casual listener just kind of forgets about it. The sooner you get your album out there, the easier it is for someone to check it out. I'm sure smaller bands aren't really concerned with first week sales and are more focused on the longevity of the record and how much it'll sell over an extended period of time. And the sooner it is available to the public, the more people will pay attention to it. I used to work at FYE, and for the five years I worked there, constantly people would come in asking for an album because their friend just showed them a song or they heard it on the radio or something, and I have to tell them that the album doesn't come out for another month and lose a sale because of it. They're just going to continue listening to that song, overplay it, and most likely grow sick of it by the time the actual album comes out. The sooner it's out there the better, I think. That way people can buy it as soon as possible. And when it comes to the more-than-casual listener, if they have to wait two months to hear an album, and it leaks a month into that wait, they're going to grow impatient, download the leak, and then toss it to the side for other music before it's even officially released. Just my opinion - maybe I'm missing something.

The tom and cymbal work on 'Catholic Girls' is so stellar, especially in the chorus. That drum arrangement is really impressive as is, but something about the type of cymbal being used really adds to it. I wish I wasn't so far removed from playing percussion in school, I might be able to tell.

I agree with this. I think the partially open hi-hat might be the cymbal sound you're talking about, but the whole part is fantastic. I like how it never settles into a beat where one cymbal or drum sticks with the eighth notes. The syncopation keeps the whole song on edge, and it's great.

I didn't realize so many people had heard this already. Guess I just assumed everyone would have heard it by now if more than a few had access to it.

I think he was linking people on Facebook to the new Wonder Years song. It was hosted on some tumblr account or something and it was supposed to premiere here.

Also, releasing "Sins" as the next single is kind of stupid. That song is probably the thing from this album that sticks out the least from what they've done in the past. I like it fine, but there are way more impressive songs here.

That's probably why they're doing it. A safe choice..

I don't think I'm gonna listen but I'd rather it be "Sins" since we already kinda have an acoustic version of that song... more surprises come release.

Spent some of yesterday walking around town listening to this. Thoughts:

1) The band's biggest problem is monotony ... their songs just all sound very similar ... you can appear anywhere on the album and not know where you are because there's a lack of differentiation within the songs. This isn't that much of a detriment in its own, cause the songs are good ... but when we've had 3 albums and 2 eps of the same stuff ... I would prefer they mix it up a little bit -- I think a different producer would help.

2) AJ's voice sounds like he's been drinking and smoking too much.

3) The "speaking through" a line (compared to opening up and singing) I noticed more than usual.

4) The sequencing is off ... the album is back-heavy.

5) This is my least favorite album by them after ~10 listens. Going back to the earlier EPs I think they should more inventiveness in their song structures and the melody.

6) AJ should get as much credit as Soupy does for relatable lyrics.

7) "Knives" is the best song Manchester Orchestra never wrote.

Agreed on all fronts.

I mean, there's nothing here that's really risky except for maybe "Knives," and even that is very obviously a Dangerous Summer song. I just think "Sins" is a boring single choice because it's probably the song that sounds the most like their last record. I disagree with Jason: I think this album does show progression. But you can't hear it in that song. Single should have been "Miles Apart."
