Herbieman - 09.26.13

Interviewed by
Herbieman - 09.26.13The following is a mini interview of generic questions that we posed to all bands that wanted to answer:

1. How did you get your band name?
It was a nickname my brother gave. It goes back to the days when hotmail appeared. I wanted a hotmail account ( back in 1993) and the handle gervasio@hotmail.com was taken so I just tried herbieman@hotmail.com and it worked. It then became my alter ego name for this musical project

2. How did this band get started?
I started recording by myself in a home studio in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In 2003 I moved to Miami and put together a band that has morphed but still tours the local scene.

3. What bands are you influenced by?
Classic rock from the Stones, The Clash, Led Zeppelin to more recent rock singer songwriters like John Mayer, Lenny Kravitz and Jack Johnson.

4. If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
Probably John Mayer since I identify with his sound and lyrics.

5. Best food to eat on tour?
Burgers I guess.

6. Why should people listen to your band?
Because it tries to convey an emotion. I write from the heart, even if it does';t make sense. Life sometimes does not make much sense either. Usually those senseless lyrics get a twited meaning in time.

7. If you could be any athlete, which athlete would you switch places with?
Not sure, probably with a solo sailor going around the globe in one of those non stop round the world races.

8. If you won a Grammy, who would you thank?
My parents, my wife and my friends that always supported my dreams.

9. If you could change something about the music industry, what would it be?
Level the playing field so we all have the same chances.

10. Memorable tour experience?
A few years back I was touring in the Argentine coast and we had to share a nasty empty building with no windows with my band mates. No showers, no light. nothing. But , hey it was free. After a couple of weeks there we felt it was time to go back to Buenos Aires. We had a great time and an awful odor.

11. What does AP.net mean to you?
It gives us access to an audience that supports indie acts. It is refreshing to know somebody tries to help.

12. What is your favorite song to play?
I would say "Last Mistake," which is a song I wrote back in the 90s and recorded onto an album last year.

13. What is your vacation spot of choice?
Uruguay or and RV camping in the national parks.

14. What music reminds you of your childhood?
The Beatles.

15. If you could have any super power, what would it be? Why?
Becoming invisible. As artists our dream is to disappear and have the song take over the creator.

16. Any pre-show superstitions or rituals?
Not really. I guess loading and unloading.

17. What is something that most fans don't know about you?
That I sailed 3 months to get to Miami aboard a 40 foot sailboat. I entered the US legally, by the way.

18. What is your assessment of the current state of radio? Do you think it's a place where your band could flourish?
I believe more in the power of blogs and music sites. Online radio and streaming is definitely the future. Terrestrial radio sucks ( with the exception of NPR and other public stations). College radios are hard to reach!

19. What do you like to do in your spare time?
Hang with my kinds.

20. What kind of hidden talents do you have?
I write in Spanish - heck I grew up writing. I have written a couple of children stories and two books: a fiction novel from 1999 and, more recently (yet to be released), a bio journey story about my trip along the Atlantic from 2003.
