The Premise

We want your playlists! The best ones will be chosen and posted throughout the second half of 2014. To have the best chance at being chosen, be sure to follow the rules below.

The Rules
  • Keep it under at around an hour, but not longer
  • Post a tracklist, an Rdio link, and a Spotify link. All songs may not be on both.
  • Be sure to give the playlist a title
  • Type up a short blurb explaining why you chose those songs
  • Type up a short blurb introducing yourself. Mention how long you've been with the site, what you like to listen to, etc. Feel free to plug your social media sites. This is great chance to promote yourself!
  • Quality over quantity. You can submit as many playlists as you want, but be reasonable.
  • For every new submission, just make a new post. Don't use the same post.

Helpful Tips
  • Tracks aren't always available on both Rdio and Spotify. It's not very common, but you can either choose another song or just include "Spotify/Rdio only" on the tracklisting.
  • You can import a Spotify playlist into Rdio using re/spin. Check it out here. Just make sure to double check the tracks after the import.

Such an awesome idea, I don't have Rdio or Spotify, but I can't wait to see what people come up with.

I won't close it until we get enough submissions. Probably a few weeks or so!

"Searing Sirens and Solos"

Spotify:http://open.spotify.com/user/arcarc9...TrLHzGrSPb9QJV
Rdio: http://rd.io/x/Rl4JS_QvwX5L/

"Energetic, fun and hip-shaking indie rock/synth with some awesome solos sprinkled throughout this set"
A good part of these songs are fairly new releases that really caught my ear. They either contained a cool solo or amazing vocal work that really stayed with me. Sometimes both. As far as genre tags? Starts off with psych rock, to indie/dance rock and ends with a trip-hop song. Varies a bit but not too much. SXSW (2014) was the first event i attended this year. Using last.fm and twitter proved to be quite helpful when trying to see locals Ume or Glass Towers "from down under". Even when things didn't work out, i got lucky and discovered gems like Bearcubbin!' and The Moth & The Flame. Connecting with other music lovers through sites like 8tracks and tastebuds.fm i was able to get recommendations for artist like Bad Suns and Mozes & The Firstborn. Everything else on this list stems from my early music discoveries or living in a "soundcloud". It's really nice up there. :)

Playlist: Searing Sirens & Solos
Megafauna - "Haunted Factory"
Ume - "Embrace"
LAVOLA - "Show Your Face Motherfucker"
Pup - "Lionheart"
Mozes and the Firstborn - "Seasons"
Darlia - "Choke On Bones"
Bombay Bicycle Club - "Overdone"
Closure in Moscow - "Seeds of Gold"
Years & Years - "Real"
We Are Scientists - "Sprinkles"
Bad Suns - "Salt"
Glass Towers - "Tonight"
The Moth & The Flame - "Winsome"
Bearcubbin'! - "Down Buttermilk Road"
Astrea Corporation - "Frequency Lust"

My name is Bobby, i tend to use doxa_lu or Ailurus(88) as an online moniker. I believe i joined this site back in '08. I still regularly check in to throw out some recommendations or read any interesting news threads. Check setlists from current tours and possibly discover new music. I spend way too much time on spotify, soundcloud and tastebuds. I started off listening to bands/artist like At The Drive-In, Interpol, The Mars Volta, Lupe Fiasco, My Chemical Romance, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. My current favorites are P.O.S, Bosnian Rainbows, Ume, Lavola, Interpol, Eyedea & Abilities, and We Are Scientists. I'll plug my tumblr page. It contains updates on this silent film fan music video project i'm doing. Along with 8track mixes, soundcloud and youtube post of french songs or anything that catches my fancy.

My soul is a hidden orchestra; I know not what instruments, what fiddlestrings and harps, drums and tamboura I sound and clash inside myself. All I hear is the symphony.” - Fernando Pessoa

Edit: I changed the title of the playlist to "Searing Sirens and Solos". Added a few more songs. Hopefully this is all to the correct format now. The playlist is sitting right under 1 hour at 58 minutes. Thanks for listening.

Edit: Thanks again. I added "Lionheart" by Pup and "Choke on Bones" by Darlia. Nico Vega is no longer on the set.

“Time to Write”

http://rd.io/x/Rl4IwD8vwWA4/
http://open.spotify.com/user/needavaca6431/playlist/58KOJ5VjNXIhzXDA0dBVqL

This is a playlist that I really like to listen to while I write. For me, these songs are motivational without being cliché or insincere. The playlist mostly deals with time: either that time is precious, or conversely, that it is never too late to get what you want. As someone who has pretty lofty goals, it’s comforting and inspiring to listen to these songs as I’m taking the steps to achieve them. Some do not obviously keep with the theme, especially Port Blue’s “Into the Gymnasium,” which is a short instrumental track that just puts me in a very good mood, and “Wishing Well” by Blink-182, which motivates me for reasons I cannot really put my finger on. Lastly, since I included a few pop tracks, I know that this playlist is not Absolutely Punk, but I hope listeners will give it a chance anyway and think that it’s as life-affirming as I do.

Cartel – “Mosaic”

Paramore –“Looking Up”

Beyoncé – “Schoolin’ Life”

Port Blue – “Into the Gymnasium”

All Time Low –“Let It Roll”

Ciara – “Livin’ It Up”

You, Me, and Everyone We Know – “Livin’ Th’ Dream”

Blink-182 – “Wishing Well”

Ellie Goulding – “Stay Awake”

The Starting Line – “Given the Chance”

Patrick Stump –“Coast (It’s Gonna Get Better)”

City Lights – “See You At the Top”

The Ready Set – “Higher”

I’m a student named Donny. I'm majoring in Spanish, but I'm interested in pusuing a career as a TV writer. I’ve been visiting Absolute Punk for about five years now. I rarely post, but I can't go a day without coming here to find out what the latest is. I listen to Pop, R&B, Pop Punk, and many different types of instrumental music. I'm currently very into LIZ, Tamar Braxton, State Champs' new album, and Ryan Teague. You can follow me on Twitter if you'd like: @DMH201. I’m funny sometimes…maybe.

Playlist description "Energetic, fun and hip-shaking indie rock with some awesome solos sprinkled throughout this set."

LAVOLA - "Show Your Face Motherfucker"
Mozes and the Firstborn - "Seasons"
We Are Scientists - "Sprinkles"
Closure in Moscow - "Seed of Gold"

Most of these songs were released this year and contain some of my favorite solos so far. I joined this site back in 08'. I tend to check in to throw out some recommendations or read any interesting news threads. I spend way too much time on spotify, soundcloud and tastebuds. Back to the playlist. More than half of these bands attended SXSW this year, which i got to experience for the first time. Last.fm and being connected to twitter made the whole event tolerable.
Great submission! You can add some more tracks, just as long as it's not over an hour.

Also, don't forget to include a quick bio about yourself and your history with the site!

I think you're the first one to have the correct format, so great work :) If you expand on your bio a bit, and fix the spacing issues in your description, you'll have a better chance.

Found a really handy tool to import a Spotify playlist into Rdio: http://resp.in/

It worked like a charm, except for one song.

"2014 Favorites"

Spotify: http://open.spotify.com/user/brtt150...Wfokhd8sNPSYM3
Rdio: http://rd.io/x/Rl4QMrMvxHiO/

I made this playlist solely based on favorite tracks that were released this year so far. There's no underlying genre or theme. There's an assortment of styles from flamenco rumba to progressive metal.

1. Wye Oak "Shriek"
2. Margot and the Nuclear So and So's "Flying Saucer Blues"
3. The Front Bottoms "Lipstick Covered Magnet"
4. Say Anything "Kall Me Kubrick"
5. Schoolboy Q "Collard Greens"
6. Dum Dum Girls "Evil Bloom"
7. Avi Buffalo "So What"
8. Lykke Li "Just Like a Dream"
9. Lana Del Rey "West Coast"
10. Banks "Goddess"
11. Popcaan "Everything Nice"
12. Rodrigo y Gabriela "The Soundmaker"
13. Mastodon "Chimes at Midnight"
14. Opeth "Cusp of Eternity"

My name's Brett. Been with the website since early 2011 although I've been reading it for much longer. I listen to a variety of genres although I gravitate towards rock and its sub-genres. Was a history teacher until I decided to go back to school for psychology. My greatest ambition is to hear a new Modest Mouse record before I die.
