Veluxe - What's Keeping You
Released November 18th, 2006
Community Guardian Records

Who?

Self described “smart, angular indie-rock with a pop sensibility”, Veluxe are a new-age Pavement with just enough pop ‘n pizzazz to make the likes of Everclear blush.

How Is It?

Though sitting through a bad rendition of Men at Work’s “Overkill” is a huge turnoff, especially in the first half of the album, What’s Keeping You is a pretty watertight release. Songs like “No Free Lunch” and “One Trick Pony” are overtly garage-rock inspired, but Veluxe breathe a new life into sloppy-hoppy jams. Vocalist Darren DeWispelaere has a very casual, yet impulsive, voice; giving each song an emotional ride and calming atmosphere for Adam Porter and Steve Daniels to follow along with an appropriately filling rhythm section.
