I'm not the person you asked, but I'm just guessing it was minimal. The robot effect reminded me of what Jonze did with WTWTA, where they are actually costumed actors, but the facial expressions are animated. I'm guess thats what went down here.
I loved it.

I loved it.

Thats exactly the case. I was part of the team tracking the animation onto the live action performances. Then the animators created the eye and mouth performances, which were rendered and integrated into the film. Also alot of digital paint outs, to remove obvious person-in-robot suit parts...
