Spin has written an interesting article on the state of rap and R&B music about how modern R&B is far more realistically explicit than rap music, yet is looked up upon. While artists like OFWGKTA are looked down upon for their over the top, graphic lyricism. Do you think Spin has made a valid point?
Ha, "Rap and bullshit." I can agree with it for the most part, don't want to get too in-depth. There are definitely a lot of love songs about date rape.
It's just a different type of being explicit. A lot of rap focuses on violence while a lot of R&B centers on sex. They can both be equally degrading to women; it just depends on what values you put on what etc.
I think a lot of r&b or whatever you call it is overly sexual. It's kind of ridiculous. Like, I saw the video for Rihanna's "S&M" the other day with scenes of her dressed to look all young I guess, all tied up singing about...well, S&M. I guess that's how you keep people interested with those kinds of artists.

They mention Rihanna in the article, so I brought it up. Also why I said "r&b or whatever you call it."
Plus they mention Chris Brown a lot as r&b and I don't see too much of a difference between their styles. So I figured it would be appropriate to mention her for that reason as well.
