Five and Alive: Mix(CD)tape, Playlists, Whatever

Posted by: Adam Pfleider (08/22/11)
This week's Five and Alive is very special. Today I'm bringing you a list of tunes from when I was heavily discovering music before the future of iPods. Remember mix CDs? Well, a few of my friends found all of mine sitting in a box in my apartment, so we decided to spin the ones with the best titles written on them to see what they contained. There was a good bit of air guitar and laughs thereafter. So today I encourage you to dust off some old mixes from a few years back and see what they behold. Were they about someone? Do you remember the event you made them for? Are you still digging the tunes on them? Hit the replies and let's start this Monday right.

Oh man, I wish I had some old mix CD's around. On another forum I'm on we started putting together "mixtapes" recently. The guy who started it gives us a theme and we submit tracks through Dropbox. He arranges the tracks and throws them in a zip after. It's pretty cool.

I'd made one which I put a lot of effort into because I really liked (and still do like) this person, so it was to show how much I appreciate them being in my life.

I spray painted it pink, used gold glitter paint to write text across it, and a typewriter to type across cut up carpet coloring chart squares which i used to make into a small tracklisting booklet. I then poked tiny holes into each end and tied them together with pieces of guitar string.

First track was 88 Fingers Louie's "Tomorrow Starts Today", some obscure female fronted glam rock band, a short political speech from the 70's as an interludes, and I think it ended with a short Limp Wrist track.
jesus Dre that's some ridiculous effort right there

Pretty sure mix cds convinced my wife to marry me while we were dating from WV to NJ. First one was called "Songs in the Key of Me" all songs I liked that had piano parts... everything from Rocket Summer to Underoath. My best one was a year or two later when I took songs out of movies that we'd seen together and called it "Gluten Free Cupcakes at the Movies"

Ah, I can't find the link. I'll upload it again.

Alright, I decided to make it a Grooveshark playlist because my internet is a load of butts and won't properly upload it. It's all summer themed. Be sure to listen in order.

I loathe their new single. It's terrible.
