| Hint: Have a band you'd like to see interviewed? Tell us. | | Fear Before The March Of Flames - 02.01.05 | How did Fear Before The March Of flames form to be a band?
It was just like what we did. It was our band that we had in high school. We had a few other ones but we were bored with it so we just started it. David had always been a kid that would follow around our old bands and sell merch and stuff and I was asked him to come scream and see what it sounded like and it just worked out.
Is there a story behind the name FBTMOF?
It was just a newspaper headline about forest fires and thought it sounded it right. It didn’t have to do with blood, knifes or dying so it worked out.
You guys just recently released Art Damage. How have you guys felt about the fan reaction so far?
We have awesome fans. There are tons of backlashes though. It’s not what a lot of kids that were into us expected. You have to realize we aren’t going to put out the same record. A lot of bands had gone melodic and radio friendly and we just didn’t want to do that with this album. Its cool just being able to get away playing whatever we feel.
What is the meaning behind the album cover for Art Damage?
It’s just basically about the music industry and killing music and telling the bands what to play and how they should sound. That’s the capital records building on the cover. It has nothing directed towards just them but that’s kind of what we were going for.
It’s released off of Equalvision records, how did you guys go about landing a deal with them?
We were on tour with Bear vs. Shark and we asked them to come out to a show and check us out and they really liked it and were interested so we signed with them. All the guys over at Equalvision are great to work with and we couldn’t be happier.
What have you guys listening to these days?
It’s been a lot of the same thing as always, Gatsby’s American Dream, Eels, Orgy, Tom Waits, NIN, and the new Mewithoutyou.
Who has influenced you guys musically?
Everything I listen to influences me, especially Mewithoutyou. The lyrics are just amazing and he does an awesome thing with his voice and I guess everything we do goes into our music.
What are some of the shows you would go to if you weren’t on tour?
The Mewithoutyou tour, Ryan Adams, and luckily we are going to be home for the Interpol show. Actually, one of the greatest things that happened to us when we were on tour was that we were playing two-part venue and in the bigger part we got a chance to see the Cardigans for free. I love them, so it was awesome.
Any cd or bands that you think we should check out?
One of my favorite bands in the world is Fire When Ready. I think there day is coming though. They write such good song and are so unappreciated.
Thanks again, are there any last words you would like to say to the readers of Absolutepunk.net?
Yeah, as far as anyone that reads this. It’s awesome that you guys listen and support us. And if you are going to sit and talk shit that sucks. But we are happy to be doing this getting to play for you guys. |
