Are we really so cynical that we think two of the most credible and integrity filled artists (Thrice and Thursday) are going on hiatus as a means to trick fans to go see their shows? I don't buy it.
I don't think their integrity or credibility is even questioned with either of these moves. I don't blame either band for being burned out, or wanting to be with their families, or whatever, and I think their motives aren't monetary. I still maintain, though, that they're going to be back before we know it, whether it was a plan from the beginning or not. Whether any of us likes it or not, nostalgia is a hot ticket. Thursday has been losing a good clip of steam, and a break would probably do them well, frankly. Thrice, however, they're probably just legitimately wanting to hang with their families. I get it. I'm just saying that this is pretty much par for the course these days. I'm not attacking either band for their choice.

My favorite band of all time (Thursday) and one of my top 5 favorite bands of all time (Thrice) hanging it up within a day of each other came as a huge shock for me.

I'm happy for both bands, accomplishing everything they have and impacting so many people and the scene as a whole. I'm glad they were able to end things on good terms and may one day return to making music together. Thanks guys, without either of you I'd be in a totally different place in life right now.

Have to say that out of the two bands that Thursday's Full Collapse had the biggest impact on me. Every song on that record is beast and I remember the first time I heard Autobio of a Nation and was absolutely floored. I never heard something so haunting and dark and intense and lyrical. Love that track. Wish I had seen them live a few more times, but it's all good. FC and WATT are two albums that I can actually listen to from that time. Thanks, Thursday.

Well said. This brings a weird feeling to me. Vheissu and this site were so big to me in 2005. The cover art was my avatar for the longest time. Thursday was the first show I ever saw when I was 13. I'm going to miss both of these bands too much to put into words. Hope we see them again one day.

dude, they all jsut got back together as Thriceday. Geoff and Dustin on vocals, 3 guitars, 2 bassists, 2 drummers, keyboards. in other words, just a few band members shy of Set Your Goals or a ska band.

it's gonna kill. i expect you to post their tour dates soon brah.

I read Thrice's entry as more of "We can no longer be a normal touring band, but we're still a band," which makes me wonder why everyone is freaking out. We'll still get new music! Thursday on the other hand, made it clear. Few bands were as committed as Thursday but I felt it was just a matter of time. Most (if not all) had day jobs on the side.

I remember all the Vhiessu coverage back in the day quite vividly. Great fuckin times. I caught three dates of that Underoath, Thrice, The Bled, Vedera tour.
