Loftland - Shh.. Just Listen
Release Date: May 14, 2009
Record Label: Unsigned
Who?
A standard pop-rock band, playing the same kind of sugary hook-laden songs you've come to expect from bands like The Click Five.
How Is It?
Apart from the obviously auto-tuned vocals and reliance on played out formulas, the band has everything together. The tracks have a much more refined sound than you'd expect from such a young band, and the musicians have all the chops they need to play this genre. If the vocalist would drop the auto-tune, I think he'd make a much more favorable impression as well. As an example, the robotic verses in "Waiting For You" really take away some of the intimate feel that track is aimed at creating. However, his vocals are more impressive in the edgier "Self-Destructive Man" where it sounds like he foregoes the autotune throughout the verses. "Self-Destructive Man" also serves as the standout track, outshining both "I Know" and "Why Should You Believe Me?" as possible contenders.
Overall, it's likely that if you like one of the tracks you've heard from this band, you're going to like them all. They're young, and while there are a few missteps throughout the course of Shh... Just Listen, if you're a fan of the standard approach to pop-rock, you're likely going to enjoy this.
