These guys make me want to know more bands from Australia. Recommendations, please.

Secrets in scale - a bit of prog (friends with CIM & Lady Radiator)
Young Heretics - male/female duo, lovely harmonies (ft. ex-Getaway Plan singer)
Thunderchild - a bit circa survive-ish, i don't think they're together anymore but i loved the music they put up
Neon Love - indie/electronic/pop
Children Collide and British India - both raw indie pop/rock
Howl - garage (myspace.com/thehowlmusic)

something for everyone.

oh and yes The Paper and the Plane is great but def won't be the same without Dan.

On the topic of Closure in Moscow being awesome, yes, yes they are.

On the topic of Australian music, there once was an Australian music thread I'm sure you could track down. It was overflowing with great bands. I don't know if the people who said there was no Australian music scene actually live here, but it's pretty good. Pretty much any band mentioned is good. Especially Stealing O'Neal, they opened for All Time Low/Set Your Goals when they were here.

On the topic of Soundwave, I was talking to a couple of the Set Your Goals gentlemen, and they said they're definitely playing Soundwave next year. Which is already reason enough for me to go.

You tried The Temper Trap yet? "Science of Fear" is win. Just signed to Glassnote stateside after some label bidding wars.
I know you know The Mission in Motion.
Try Envy Parade - "Lullabies & Awkward Lies"
& some The Getaway Plan- One of Australia's biggest emo/rock bands, so I've heard, before they called it quits a few months back. Closure in Moscow toured with 'em.

Planet Verge did an interview with Closure in Moscow and even got to sit in on an acoustic performance. They taught us some rad Australian slang--and they have potty mouths in the most literal sense. Keep your eyes on planetverge.com, it should be posted soon!
