So many bands of Sherwood-status barely get by. When you consider the fact that profits are split amongst several guys in a band (and with merch/management) it isn't uncommon that each member make less than $35k a year. Granted, this is better (to some) than sitting in an office, taking phone calls and crunching numbers for $40k, so- it's not an entirely bad trade off.
Again, however, this is for a Sherwood-status band. One that's been through the motions of making records, going on tour, selling merch, etc. Bands slightly below this status make even less and it becomes even harder to make a living in what can be a VERY expensive businness/hobby.
