Who?

This Building are a four-piece rock band from La Crosse, Wisconsin. Their sound is an energetic mix of alternative, pop-rock, and pop-punk.

How is it?

Their EP, entitled Are You Listening?, kicks off with “The Last Song of Summer.” While not the strongest track on the EP, it really shows off their sound -- pop-punk hooks and edgy guitar riffs, along with dueling vocals. “Ambivalence,” my favorite song off the EP, is a fun track with great guitar work and a really catchy chorus. “Stay Awhile” retains the pop-punk riffs but throws in some pop elements complete with samples and auto-tuned vocal bits. Things slow down with “The Message,” a short acoustic/electric track. The last two songs, “This Is Happening” and “The Things We Meant To Say,” follow the same formula of the previous power pop jams on the EP.

Overall This Building are a band worth checking out if you’re into pop-punk with an edge. They take many different elements and put them together well along with lyrics that are well-crafted and full of emotion. If these guys stick with it, they definitely have the potential to do big things in the future.
