Senses Fail - Let It Enfold You
Record Label: Vagrant Records
Release Date: September 7th, 2004
OK, I'm just gonna say it: I like to review bands I like more than ones I dislike, and also seemingly ones everyone else seems to hate, so as I write this, I know there are a lot of Senses Fail haters, especially toward this album, but for me it was like discovering something completely different.
Though I didn't hear this album until about the time Still Searching was released, it blew me away. At this point in time, I wasn't really exposed to much of this scene, so when i heard this, I was hooked to Senses Fail. I was immediately struck by the lyrical content of the album; it was so dark, and made me feel dark and brooding for listening to it. The themes of death, depression and all the other cliches that go along with it were just well done to me. "Fuck with my heart, i'll teach you what its like, to be so used that you'll have to bleed." Admittedly this part is the equivalent of "judging a book by it's cover," but just the song titles had me so intrigued.
Musically, it's solid throughout; the use of fast punk-like drums mixed with the frenetic guitars create this great meld with the vocals. Whilst many of users on AP.net will criticize the vocal delivery and screams on this album, I find that they're fantastic. The band creates an album laced with angst-ridden, emo-tinged punk, which many bands try to emulate today. For me, this album was far better overall than Still Searching and Life Is Not A Waiting Room. Thats not to say those albums weren't great; they showed alot of progression but for me this is the by far their best effort.
So yes, this will get alot of people hating on this album all over again, but I hope that it will get people to get this disc out and play it again and remind them what they used to love.
