Metric and virtual world IMVU are joining forces to offer Metric fans from all over the world a new way to experience the band. The official Metric storefront launches today in one of IMVU's interactive 3D rooms. IMVU members can go to
http://www.imvu.com/shop/metric to buy Metric music that they can play in their own virtual rooms, as well as 3D Metric virtual merch for their avatars. In addition to offering links to purchase and listen to Metric's latest album Fantasies, the store offers a variety of products that speak to Metric's unique fashion sense, including the flapper-style dress worn by lead singer Emily Haines in the music video for "Sick Muse," her signature sunglasses, '80s-style tank tops and more. Groups of IMVU users can listen to, dance to, and talk about Metric's music and style together in these rooms, and wear and share the virtual products that capture the essence of Metric's unique style.
In conjunction with the launch of the merch store, IMVU will give away a free unrestricted download of Metric's single "Help I'm Alive" to all IMVU members.
On October 25th, IMVU will host a Metric virtual Meet and Greet in a customized animated environment. There, IMVU users can chat with the band members via their avatars and ask them questions.
Beginning on October 27th, a brand-new Metric acoustic EP will be available exclusively on Amazon.com for one month (wider distribution to follow). The EP, titled "Plug In Plug Out," features never-before-heard acoustic recordings of "Gold Guns Girls," "Satellite Mind" and "Twilight Galaxy", among others.
Metric's latest album Fantasies was self-released to critical acclaim. The band saw significant success with debut single "Help I'mAlive," which officially cracked the Top 20 Alternative charts on US commercial radio- an historical feat for a band operating without a record label. The single got an organic start after it was accidentally leaked online, picked up by The Hype Machine blog and then put on air by Seattle's KNDD last February.
In continued support of Fantasies, Metric will play shows in select North American cities this fall. Tour dates for Metric can be found below.
You can preview the acoustic EP, listen to Fantasies in its entirety and download the acoustic version of current single "Gold Guns Girls" at
http://ilovemetric.com, as part of an imbeddable viral widget featuring audio and video content.
