| Paramore - brand new eyes | Paramore - brand new eyes
Record Label: Fueled by Ramen
Release Date: September 29, 2009
After long waits, or dreadful waits for some people, Paramore have come back. With the release of their third album, brand new eyes, the much-anticipated follow-up to 2007’s Riot!, they show that they’re ready to take over the world with their music. In this album, we learn that Paramore is indeed a band, and not just the fiery-haired Hayley Williams.
The album opens with "Careful," a hard-hitting, heavier track with rolling drums and Williams’ vocals yelling high and hitting lower notes, and it’s easily one of the album’s strongest songs, but they’re just getting started. Following "Careful," you find the lead single "Ignorance," which to me is like a much improved, better sounding version of "Misery Business." "Brick By Boring Brick," also the second single, is another one of the album’s strong points, with a catchy chorus, shining vocals and Josh Farro’s incredibly tight guitars. The first acoustic ballad on the album is "The Only Exception." This was a song that really let me down. They had such a good opportunity for a great sounding chorus, but repeated the same four lines in the same low toned voice, along with cliché lyrics that make the words ‘what were they thinking?’ come to your head.
The second half of the album doesn’t start off immensely strong. "Feeling Sorry" is a pretty weak song in my personal opinion. Following that is "Looking Up," a song written about the band's near break-up, and coming back together strongly. Though the lyrics are probably difficult to relate to, the song structure in this song is actually pretty great, the ending strong. The second acoustic track, "Misguided Ghosts," is a bit of an improvement from "Exception," it’s much less boring and repetitive. The album closes with "All I Wanted," where Williams’ vocals shine and you can really hear how amazing a singer she is. The verses and the chorus are a little bit unbalanced, but I’d advise you to prepare to be blown away by the vocals toward the middle of the song.
All in all, this is by no means a bad album. I’d say it’s Paramore’s best album to date. The vocals have gotten stronger, the drumming is definitely more present and well-done and the lyrics are so much more meaningful and deep. Even if you don’t like Paramore, it’s definitely hard to say they didn’t have more than two good songs on this album. |

This reaches the high 80s for me. And that surprises me, considering the type of music you like.. I would think you would love Paramore...

I like Riot and AWKIF (except My Heart), since it reminds me of old DTR pop punk, but with a female singer. This album just bores me to death.

I don't think, from a pop perspective, that it's boring at all
I don't feel compelled to listen to BEN that much though

The hooks just aren't as big as the ones in Riot/AWKIF (imo). The album also falls into the trap of repeating lines too much in order to compensate for the lack of a big hook.
Gave it a week, and the only songs that stood out were Careful and Playing god

Thanks, first review for me haha.
But I'd probably say that Riot! was their weakest, something about that always flopped a bit for me.
