Every Avenue - Picture Perfect

Every Avenue - Picture Perfect
Record Label: Fearless Records
Release Date: November 2, 2009

November 2nd, 2009, Every Avenue released their second full length, Picture Perfect. Their first full length, Shh... Just Go With It wasn't anything remarkable. However, Picture Perfect is drastically better than it's predecessor.

First single "Tell Me I'm A Wreck" and stand-out song "For Always, Forever" came out on their Myspace before the album's release, and was only a sign of good things to come. The musicianship is noticeably better. The drums work very well as a moderator accenting the guitar and vocals. "Mindset," possibly the best song on the album, is a catchy quick-paced ballad with the flip-flopping choruses similar to what you'll find in "Saying Goodbye." In the last chorus, David Strauchman soars and shows off his vocal range.

The title track, "Picture Perfect," varies in it's music. The drums and guitar alternate on and off beats during the verses until a climatic chorus intrudes with it's dance-like beat to it. Picture perfect continues on this path until the elongated "Picture Perfect doesn't mean much to me" in the last chorus brings the song to an end. The lyrics are similar to "Way Away" of Yellowcard's. Just getting away and not listening to people who advise you to stop chasing your dreams.

"For Always, Forever," "Mindset," or "Picture Perfect," all seem destined for future radio success as a single.

"Saying Goodbye" is one of those songs you don't notice a lot at first, then maybe a month later, it's a must-listen in the car. The song starts witha heavier guitar and drum intro. In the song the drums have an addicting 2 eighth note quarter not beat. Until the bridge lures us into the final chorus.

"Girl Like That" is co-written by Ryan Key (Yellowcard, Big If) and Every Avenue. It's very catchy, and like most of the album, is very good musically.

Without a doubt among the weakest tracks on the album are "I Forgive You" and "Finish What You Started." Lyrics like, "I forgive you for the truth/ I liked you better when you lied" reminds me that Every Avenue still has room for improvement and this is only a sophomore attempt. "Finish What You Started" has different issues however. The musicality that was so dominant in stronger songs in the album vanished. The drums run wild and the vocals were too similar to "Saying Goodbye." Exclaiming the song title isn't as enjoyable the second time around. Then again, "If Nothing Went Wrong/ Then How Would It Feel Right."

It's interesting that they threw "Happy The Hard Way" in the fifth spot. It's not nearly as good as "The Story Left Untold." That said, "Happy The Hard Way does have some good lyrics squeezed in it. "There's something to find in all those places you fear." Similarly they have a piano part and is at a moderate speed, but in the eleventh spot, it concludes the album very solidly along with "Clumsy Little Heart." "Clumsy Little Heart" builds up the chorus very well and finishes off the album well.

Too many among our fan base, Every Avenue will be unnoticed or just ignored. However, Picture Perfect is arguably one of the most complete albums of 2009. If not, then it's just a huge step in the right direction.

Wasn 't anything remarkable? I think you should listen to it before you say that.

Are you trying to say it was? Or that it was bad?

I'm trying to say it was remarkable. Good review, good album, but I think Shh... Just Go With It is better than Picture Perfect. But hey, everyone has a different opinion, and this is a very solid album, I just think Shh... Go With it was a notch better.

After listening to this cd a couple times after this review, I think "Happy The Hard Way" is better than I gave it credit for. Also, there are 3 guitar solos. Apparently, I didn't notice the other two through the first couple listens.

No it wasn't.

This is a terrible terrible review. You end it abruptly... ever heard of a conclusion?

Very good, solid pop-punk album in my opinion. The review is pretty spot-on although I actually liked "Happy the Hard Way" better than "The Story Left Untold."

i think your retarded! shh.. was amazing yes. but picture perfect is equally AMAZING! not any less awsome. Yes at first it was like what the hell is this but you have to realize this is a new album and you have to give it a chance to grow on you.the albums can't be the same everytime you have to expect change. if it was the same everytime people would get annoyed. not to mention people change day by day and peoples music is going to change too. I like this new album. It has def grown on me. your review was just short of AWFUL! you made them seem like a horrible band and if i didn't know better i would prob not have bought their album because of this review. so maybe you should think about how your affecting their sales.
