Weekly Nostalgia: The Blood Brothers

Posted by: Adam Pfleider (11/18/09)
We all have those days. When the world is simply wearing us thin and we just want to go buck wild on it. While the law and common decency won't allow for such action, The Blood Brothers have managed to create a sound to release said frustration through. Formed in 1997 in Seattle, Washington, duel vocalist Jordan Billie and Johnny Whitney were low end-high end audible sirens backed by the the ferocious guitar work of Cody Votolato and the rhythmic groove of Morgan Henderson and Mark Gajadhar. After releasing two intense albums, the band released their breakthrough record, 2003's Burn Piano Island, Burn. A post-hardcore triumph in balancing choruses and building monuments that would come crashing down - top that to the Beach Boys inspired closer of "The Shame," and it stands as the fan favorite today. The band's follow-ups, 2004's Crimes and 2006's Young Machetes showed the band continuing to push their sound, finding ground in early post-punk ethics while holding their initial bite. Yesterday, Epitaph Records re-issued the final four albums due to the original labels going under. Good to know that the mayhem and creative backbone of the band will live on.

You couldn't be more correct. I had the pleasure of seeing them live and it was beyond memorable. I love them and their solid discography of music.

Agree. I had some pretty epic pictures of the live shows that I lost long ago on an hold hard drive, and I hate that they can't be retrieved.

I remember right before they broke up, they had JUST announced new shows for a tour that was like more than 6 months away, and I was SO pumped on it already, like crazy-hyped. Then the rumors started, and I didn't want to believe it.

I really, really wish they'd have a reunion show down here. The Glasshouse misses them. Sadface.

I'm sooo glad I got into these guys. I constantly throw on "Trash Flavored Trash" to drive my friends crazy when I'm driving around.
