So, any music that reaches popularity must be accessible?
Never once said that.

I did get it. You were insulting my music.
Not once.

I'm convinced!

I am not a Radiohead fan, I just can't get into them and never could. And at this point it's hard for me to listen to people say "I'm a huge Radiohead fan" because every 2-bit hipster wannabe says the exact same thing
I totally agree with everything you said.

Are you saying The Shins aren't a mainstream band?

well that's because the bends, ok computer, and kid a are rightfully "sacred" and flawless.
maybe they are. maybe they're not. it's all opinion. look at the title of this thread. music is subjective, as is all art.

For the specific definition of mainstream in the context of music yes.
Nah, actually J Crane is far more specific to the definition of mainstream in the context of music. But since you like Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...d_by_Radiohead

Pretty good example of a mainstream band. No negative connotation implied.

Fine ... it means ketchup.
awesome.

but seriously, isn't that the whole argument here?

from what I can tell, you for example say the band is mainstream but their music is not. most people don't seem to be making that separation, and don't care.

I think the whole argument is pretty pointless.
They are famous, they have influence. Their music is not very conforming.
Anybody disagree with these last two sentences?

So it was said here today by Jason Tate, Blink 182's last album was not pop punk.

There would be something seriously wrong if Radiohead WASN'T mainstream. Their output has been flawless since 1995, no other band has been able to achieve that.

Immerse your soul in love? Really?

Let's get dirty and have a heated debate. I don't want some hippie soul sojourner to slow it down.

i don't think anyone's claiming that. there are plenty of good mainstream artists and bands. i'm not even a radiohead fanboy. i just thought it was odd to see them labeled as mainstream when to me it's obvious they've made their career out of being the exact opposite of that.
Radiohead couldn't have done half the stuff they've done in their career had the band not been in the mainstream.

I've felt more from certain pop punk songs than I've felt from any Radiohead song. Cue arguments that pop punk is shallow and Radiohead is too deep for my comprehension.

I hear ya. Radiohead must be too deep for me too.

This x 100. In Rainbows' digital release would never have worked as it did.

i don't care what the title says. you think all music is subjective, i think there is objectivity in music and art.

But you said what makes an artist mainstream is how many records/tickets they sell... She sold barely any. Just making a point, Boss.
You didn't make a point.. stop being a little bitch.
