Washington Square Park
New Jersey seems to be a state that produces great bands and Washington Square Park proves that statement true. Specializing in gritty, infectious pop-punk laced with indie rock, chances are they’ll hook you in with one spin and only get better the more you listen. “These Last Three Months” is particularly catchy and starts off with a punch perfect for a live setting. It also reminds me a little of “Are We Really Happy With Who We Are Right Now?” by Moneen. Slower tracks like “Possibilities” feature soulful guitar lines, but most of their songs are overly energetic and you can tell they’re having fun. Whether you’re watching their music video or rocking out to the chorus of “No Medication.”
The band seems to have a decent work ethic too. They recently put two new songs on their MySpace and the band plans to release their debut full-length themselves in March. If you like This Time Next Year, you should check them out and it also seems that they are opening a show for TTNY this month. Coupled with a bunch of other tour dates with other bands in the eastern United States, Washington Square Park is a band you should keep an eye on.
