Before They Were Stars - Humble Beginnings (Gabe Saporta)

Posted by - 07:43 PM on 02/18/10
Streaming in entirety at the Humble Beginnings AP.net Profile is the Overanalyzing the Manifestations of the Unconscious EP (released by Eyeball Records in 1998). These snotty New Jersey pop-punks included a blossoming rockstar named Gabe Saporta, and it's here that you can hear what it sounded like at step one. Head to the replies for commentary from Eyeball owner Alex Saavedra.

Commentary from Alex SaavedraWhen i first met Gabe I remember thinking to myself "dang, he is tall for his age!" and at the same time "dang, he isn't tall enough for all of these ideas in his head!"
In hindsight those thoughts and that gut feeling totally made sense.

I was already doing the label for a couple years at the time we met and he would always bug me to listen to his band. He would go on and on about how many heads they could get at their hall shows in NJ. I kind of brushed him off until I saw it first hand. Gabe, Josh, Chris, and later, Jeremy as well were onto something really amazing. They were leading the way for tons of Jersey talent to follow. I even met Geoff from Thursday through Gabe.

I'm really proud to have been part of "Overanalyzing... (longest punk title ever)" and I met so many great friends from directly working with them during that time. Wow, now I'm getting really nostalgic. Haha.

Such a hilarious transition from this to Cobra.

This music is pretty bad, though. I've never even been a huge Midtown fan let alone a Gabe fan.
