| Gunmetal Grey - Solitude | Gunmetal Grey – Solitude
Release Date: February 8, 2005
Label: Indianola Records
I make no apologies for being partial to Indianola bands. Save for a couple of “What the fuck were they thinkings?”, the Georgia label has had a knack for finding talent within the screamo/metal underground over their relatively short, albeit impressive lifespan. Even serving as a bigger-label launching pad for bands like Evergreen Terrace (Eulogy), Life In Your Way (Solid State), and most recently A Day To Remember (Victory). By all indications, Gunmetal Grey is done and will never have the chance to lift off like these other bands did. It’s a shame too because their sole release on Indianola, a 2005 seven song EP, showed no signs of grounding them.
Owing more to Metallica than your average scene metal band these days, Solitude delivers just as much in fancy fretwork as it does in the way of contrasting vocal styles. Lead guitarist, Brandon Scot’s fingering on “The Crown of Deception” borders on gaudily unnecessary, but it leaves you nothing if not impressed by someone that has no doubt spent years perfecting the guitar.
Eddie Hermida is the only voice credited in the liner notes and if it really is only his chops on the album, I suggest all California metal bands kick out their current voicebox and hunt this guy down. Few do the Dr. Jekyl/Mr. Hyde thing better than Eddie. His Dr. Jekyl is almost Gregorian chant-like and his Mr. Hyde is a frighteningly wicked warlocking. Two entirely different entities out of the same throat. Which along with being one of the band’s biggest strengths, is likely their most glaring flaw.
The way Solitude was recorded makes it nearly impossible to duplicate it in a live show. Hermida’s diverse vocal styles often overlay each other and unless he’s also a talented ventriloquist there’s no way he can do that in front of a live audience. At any rate, that last point is moot. Gunmetal Grey could’ve easily caught on for Indianola, but for whatever reason they couldn’t stay together as a touring band. Here’s hoping Hermida and Scot find new projects that showcase their seldom-equaled talents.
(NOTE: Eddie Hermida is now the vocalist for All Shall Perish)

"Shades of grey" is just another way of saying RIYL. The band's name is Gunmetal Grey, so I figured "Shades of grey" would work.
2. Metallica is epic metal in my opinion and Gunmetal Grey is in that same vein, rather than filthy metal like Lamb of God, Slayer, or insert other band here.

You're right. I should've done a search on his name.
