Daylight - Sinking 10"

Daylight - Sinking 10"
Record Label: Get This Right Records/City of Gold Records
Release Date: November 17, 2009

Who?

Daylight, four dudes from the Keystone state, release their debut EP Sinking.

How Is It?

It sounds a lot like the post-hardcore you heard in the 90s. If you think they sound like Hot Water Music or Jawbreaker, you're not alone. The gritty vocals are instantly comparable to those of Hot Water Music
. Musically, the band is tight, sounding like a cross between Hot Water Music, Jawbreaker and, at times, Title Fight.

Album opener "Enough" doesn't waste time with a build up, going right in to the self-deprecating lyrics of "Can't take anymore/There's nothing that I love/Life is way too short/Just not short enough." Second track "The Best" will get circle pits going, just try not to listen to the lyrics too much. "You're Not My Father" tells it like it is, about a son that disowns his father.

If all you want is decent sounding music, give Sinking a listen. Just try not to focus too hard on what's being said. We get it, you hate you life and you need an outlet to complain about it. But at what point does being depressed turn in to just sounding whiny?

Yessir, a 68. Musically, I loved it. Lyrically, it was too depressing to sit through. I'll be the first to admit that when it comes to music, the lyrics are the last thing I dissect. But when they're as blatantly self-deprecating as they were on this, I just can't stomach it. Every artist is depressed, every artist is struggling. Stop whining and do something about it.
