The Swelly Express is awesome. Chiddy Bang were supposed to play at a party at my cousin's frat but they fell through. I was so bummed. But they ended up booking XV instead, and he was great. Definitely check him out if you haven't yet.
XV is great, love him. Anyway, I REALLY enjoyed this mix tape. Can't wait to hear some more stuff.
Strong review. I think these guys are highly inventive, but not necessarily for their samples. I guess if I have a quibble here, or maybe a question, it's: how much credit do we really want to give them for pioneering the sampling of "indie" music? Pretty sure the whole cross-pollination thing has been mainstream since Kanye sampled Daft Punk on "Stronger", if not earlier, and certainly since then pretty mainstream hip-hop acts have been doing it (T.I. sampling M.I.A. on "Swagga Like Us", etc). Maybe those don't count as indie rock, technically, but they're sure Pitchfork-approved acts. Like I said, I do think Chiddy Bang is hot - love "Truth" and "Danger Zone" - but I'm not sure they took sampling anywhere it hasn't been before.
Ah, yes! Because a user name that you assumed is an MCR user name that I happened to make in 2004 means that I can't have opinions on mediocre flash-in-the-pan rap groups!
And your user name is no better. Probably worse. You probably should have considered that before you decided to post that.
I agree that they're awesome but I don't know if they're blowing up... I just graduated so I've been to a lot of events/parties in the last few days with DJs, and every time I request Truth or Opposite of Adults they act like I'm crazy. I wish they would, though.
