Who?
This Love are a pop/rock band from Dayton, Ohio, a place known in the music world for Hawthorne Heights.
How is it?
The Beginning EP is titled perfectly, as it is the beginning to This Love, though they already know exactly what direction they plan to go in with their music. This EP explores the softer side of pop-rock music, yet each song is instantaneously likable and easy to sing along to. “The Beginning” accordingly begins the EP, with vocalist Joe McFaddin’s soft, peaceful vocals over a simple acoustic guitar. “Like a Million Lights” is a bit more upbeat than the opening track, driven by soft, quick piano play over McFaddin’s infectious voice. Once the chorus hits, it’s prevalent just how catchy and crafty This Love can be with their music, for this track is easily the catchiest and most outstanding track on the EP. “Tides” continues in vain of “Lights” while “Reflections” slows down The Beginning with Jake Rinehart’s intricate piano play. This ballad shows a different side to This Love, and McFaddin’s vocals and lyrics are at their peak, as he hits every note perfectly; the guitar solo at the end proves the pure talent of McFaddin as a guitarist, also. Due to its overall uniqueness, “Reflections” is incredibly memorable. “Just Breathe” speeds up The Beginning again, and closer “Dear Carolina” combines every facet of the EP into one final, fantastic song.
With The Beginning, This Love have found their sound. This is an EP great for summer nights. Each track is unlike than the next, yet they stream together soundly. This EP is only just the start to This Love, yet it’s apparent there is no end in sight for this passionate band.
