Tim Kinsella (Cap n' Jazz, Joan of Arc, Make Believe) has an interesting article in the most recent Alternative Press in which he criticizes every band featured within Alternative Press' August 2006 issue and the musical culture in general. A transcript can be found below, taken from the AP forums.
Wow. Kinsella angry. Kinsella want to crush other bands. As much as I love Tim Kinsella's work, I'd have to say he comes off as a little jealous. This is the perfect ploy. Knock out the competition. He's probably plotting this A) get rid of all the gay ass bands B) form Cap'n Jazz's Promise Ring and then take over the world!!!!!. But in all seriousness, it was an interesting read from an interesting man.
Ps. Cap'n Jazz's Promise ring is a joke. So take it as such and don't correct me with facts I dont care about. I know who was in what band and blah blah so whatever.
i half agree with him. he has some good points but hes being a little bit too much of a cock. i agree there is so much more quantity than quality now. and alllooooott of shitty bands that get more attention than they should ever deserve. something needs to change. i get what hes saying. but he sounds like a shithead.
We dont need opinions of our own as long as this guy is telling us what to do.
It's satire. Appreciate it, don't take it seriously.

As much as I like and respect the Kinsellas... that was stupid.
If you're going to rant about the music industry, make it coherent. Don't just issue ultimatums that would simply create a vacuum for more of the same.
If someone less respectable did this I'd call a publicity ploy.
Edit: I do like the bit about emotion losing its value. That's an interesting concept. And I didn't really take this as if it were written partially in jest, in which case it's pretty funny.
haha. this guy's music is too good for me not to say anything. i just wish i knew where to draw the line between his social critique and the obvious joke- although, i wouldn't be too bummed out if any of the bands he named there broke up, or even if some of them were shipped off to war.
hopefully, everyone who read it took with them something meaningful instead of assuming he's just ripping on scene kids.
