Taddy Porter - 06.14.10The following is a mini interview of generic questions that we posed to all bands that wanted to answer:

1. How did you get your band name?
We got our name, as some people may not know, from a beer... After coming up with many ridiculous names (i.e. Red Giant, Honey Drip, and many other uncools) we decided that we needed something that fit us... So... One night when we were more or so just relaxing at our favorite bar in Stillwater, I went to one of the many import fridges... I scrolled down the list and saw a beer that was 8.50 a bottle... Baffled that someone would pay that much for a single beer, I then checked out the name... Taddy Porter... I then bought two PBR's for less than half the price of the porter and went back to my table. I sat down and said "what do you think about Taddy Porter?" Doug then said "it's perfect." It had the right ring to it I guess... Like a sophisticated English drunk that rocks! Ha!

2. How did this band get started?
Taddy Porter formed in late 2007... I (Andy Brewer) was a senior at OSU on my way to becoming a field geologist... I had been writing songs for a few years and knew when I graduated I was probably going to have put down any aspirations of ever becoming a musician... Because just jumping into that profession is nearly impossible... I was just facing the facts... I had no band and knew no one in any industry... I made friends with some people that liked to throw parties on the weekends and when the usual house was unavailable for another mess, we were detoured to another... I walked in to the house and immediately heard live drums being played... I shuffled around the party for awhile and after a few cocktails gathered enough gumption to walk into the music room... I then met Doug Jones on the drums and he asked me "You play?" I then picked up one of the many guitars that were scattered across his room and started playing one of the songs I had written... I was in there for maybe 45 minutes and we had already gotten every drum part figured out and then some... We knew right then we had something... And right then our band was formed... Now the search for our other boys was on...

3. What bands are you influenced by?
Wow... There are so many... We have many modern and classic rock influences along with many blues influences... Led Zeppelin, Free, and Credence Clearwater Revival just to name a few classics... The Black Keys, Wolfmother, My Morning Jacket, and Them Crooked Vultures on the modern side... All mixed with Peter Green, Freddie King, and Howlin Wolf of the blues genre... Ha! It's a big mixture of all!

4. If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would it be and why?
Many of our influences for sure... I would love to tour with Paul Rodgers of Free/Bad Company/Queen. He is amazing... We would love to tour with Kings of Leon but, who wouldn't right now? Ha!

5. If you were a furry, what animal would you be? Why that animal?
A sea otter... They always seem to be having a good time! Ha! Weather they are swimming or on land... Plus they are super smart!

6. Why should people listen to your band?
Well... We are a very optimistic band... Our songs are about life and love... You may want a refreshing look on rock n' roll music and that's where we come in... You can only be angry for so long... So when your mood brightens :)

7. If you were chosen to be in Guitar Hero/Rock Band, what song would you want in the game? How hard do you think it would be to five-star on expert?
"I Gotta Love!" It would be pretty tough to five-star this song because it has many solo parts and rhythm breaks... I don't even think I could do it... Ha!

8. If you won a Grammy, who would you thank?
My family and everyone that has helped us along our way... There would be many to name :) Coffee and weed...

9. If you could change something about the music industry, what would it be?
I would change the attendance! People used to go out to shows more often... I like to see filled seats! Ha!

10. Memorable tour experience?
Well... It's kind of memorable... We played a show at a casino in Michigan where everything was comped... To make a long story short... After almost going to jail... I somehow wound up locked out of my room in my underwear... I have no idea...

11. What does AP.net mean to you?
AP.net? Well... I honestly have never heard of it... Maybe you could enlighten me?

12. What is your favorite song to play?
That is really hard to say... I really enjoy playing all of our songs... It's a new explanation, I feel, every time we have a show... You know when you find the best way explain a song...

13. What is your vacation spot of choice?
I love the mountains... Colorado is amazing!

14. What music reminds you of your childhood?
Classic rock music... Reminds me of long fishing trips with my father...

15. If you could have any super power, what would it be? Why?
I'd have to say... The ability to read minds... It would come in handy the music industry... I'd know what everyone wanted to hear ;)

16. Do you feel that your band has "made it"?
Not really... We are a lot more fortunate then most bands but, we are far from that... I'd say, optimistically, in a few years

17. What is something that most fans don't know about you?
Hmmm... Well... I was drafted out of high school by the Los Angeles Dodgers as a pitcher...

18. What's your favorite holiday?
Thanksgiving! I love me some Turkey! I'm totally a foodie...

19. What do you like to do in your spare time?
Exercise, read, and spend time with my family

20. What kind of hidden talents do you have?
I can throw the hell out of a Frisbee!

Taddy Porter is a delicious beer from the Samuel Smith Brewing Co. He should have gotten it. You hipsters and your PBRs.
