All We Have - Rain City
Record Label: Self-released
Release date: August 6th, 2009
Despite a somewhat generic name, All We Have posses a certain unique quality which many bands today lack; passion. The vocals and guitar work on opening track “Dreamer” hits you like a freight train after a somber introduction which sets the mood for five-song EP Rain City.
Owing much to bands like Killing the Dream and Modern Life Is War, All We Have vocalist Ric screams his guts out with an incredibly raw and abrasive style. However that’s not to say that the band’s debut release is badly recorded, in fact the production is incredibly crisp, complete with gang vocals et al, which is a welcome change from the multitude of hardcore bands whose early releases sound like they were recorded on an iPhone.
The EP is a mixture of explosive, high-energy hardcore which will make you want to crack some heads, and brooding, emotional tracks which will send shivers down your spine. For example, title track “Rain City” demonstrates the bands ability to write incredibly dynamic music with a blisteringly fast-paced first half followed by a heartfelt chug-section in which the band’s anger and emotion really shine through.
Although All We Have don’t bring anything particularly new to the table their passion and musicianship cannot be faulted and Rain City is an essential record in any melodic hardcore fan’s collection.
